View Full Version : The Bucket List

Sadly, one of my best friends was laid to rest the other day after a horrific battle with pancratic cancer. He began a bucket list after diagnosed but unfortunately he didn't have the opportunity to put much of a dent in it. His proudest accomplisment, though simple but yet meant a lot to him, was having his ear pierced with a diamond stud. This stood as his act of defiance to the ultra conservative engineering company he labored at for far too many years. It made me think of my own bucket list. So, do you have a list and if so, have you started to make a dent in it and what is your highest priority on that list?

I do have one and have put a decent dent in it. Is it legal to add new stuff if you are so blessed to get to live long enough to need to?

I am sorry about your friend. My hero Randy Pausch died of pancreatic cancer. Swift.

I thought that your bucket could be the size of a swimming pool, so long as it lists the things you REALLY want to do, not just think that you should.

Buckets are for special things.

I really think it is essential to add to our bucket list. It is when we stop adding is when we really start to decline.

I have a small bucket list and am happy to say a few are checked off. :) Making my list allowed me to realize a number of things that I truly would have put on it, have been achieved. I guess I've been blessed in many ways.

The single top item now is to spend time alone with and touch a giant sequoia.

. . . . to spend time alone with and touch a giant sequoia.

And you said I was getting kinky.

This isn't a splinter fetish thing, is it?

He and I both have a desire to experience some giant hard wood :p

I guess we'll both have to go west. ;)

Definitely a splinter faction being created here.

I probably shouldn't tell you that the sequoia is technically a softwood, so I won't.

LOL  I didn't think you could have a wrong bucket list.

Something else that was on my 'one time! list' before I knew about the 'bucket list' that most likely won't happen now, is to play at a table in Grand Casino, Monti Carlo, after dinner (black tie only) just once. :D

Do they have craps there or are you learning how to win at Banco?

I had a small but varied bucket list, mostly travel oriented.

I started emptying it in 2003, when Mrs OF and I met Lilith and family in Florida.

A couple of PAGANS and an Aviation tour of southern England have taken out a fair chunk of it.

Me, Nasa, or the Naval Air Museum? :p

Why is it that the rivals for my affection/attention are powered by rocket fuel? Have you no idea how much cheaper of a date I am?

Lil, you by far anything but cheap!

Though with the way gas prices are rising it probably wouldn't take long for you to be a cheaper date than filling a gas tank.

'Tis because we are greedy and want it all. You, NASA and a cosy drive across the panhandle, counting dead armadillos.

I wrote a bucket list some years ago. It wasn't very long, maybe a dozen items, and I've either crossed them off the list, or outgrown the desire. I've been blessed, yes, but I've also found it hard to dream new dreams. I've decided that maybe I don't need to; maybe now, my task is to just be, here, now. No more, no less.

I've never sat down and written a bucket list, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie based on the concept. There isn't anything that I feel an overwhelming desire to do with my life at this point. I have goals, and aspirations but nothing concrete enough to actively pursue. Maybe it will be different in a few years.

No PF, Lil hasn't taken me there yet, perhaps for my 10th anniversary of visiting Wright-Pat in 2003.

I've got Alaska, Australia and New Zealand on my list ... but with little likelihood I'll get them checked off. :(
