OMG i have never seen so much water *L* While we are safe from flooding unfortunately for some this is not the case. A warning has come out to not do any uneccessary travelling as many roads are dangerous with water or completely impassable

QLD is in for a VERY wet time.

We have a small river flowing down one side of the house (just runoff not an actual river) and we had to dig a channel through our carport to release more water from the backyard. The water just cannot run away quick enough. Our rainwater tank is majorily overflowing for the 1st time since we moved here. The water is that deep in the yard it is mucking with our waterpipes, causing backflows of air to burst through the inside sinks.

We have an open water drain running past our front fence and it is full to the point it is covering nearly half the road as well. It is bin day, so we put the bin out for collection and the force of the water was moving it down the street *L* (240litre bin, chockers and heavy as) AND the rain is getting heavier!

Once i've got some batteries, i hope to get some pics, it is unreal!

Wow. I understand that kind of water. It can be like that in Florida too. Stay safe. Don't travel more than is necessary and take care of each other ((hugs)))

I don't know who you ticked off down there but it seems you did a good job of it. :hair: While a part of Queensland the size of Germany and France, COMBINED, is under water and 70 some people missing besides the already counted dead, the place is awash [pun intended] with many of your not-so-nice critters on the move and in a pissy mood. Now the scarce dirt above water is in contention between crocks, poison snakes and people. This for you while the state of Victoria chocks on the smoke from the largest and most intense brush fires ever recorded there. Your over abundance of vermin is being off-set by the crispy critters that may be the last of their kind and some that escaped to their bunkers will emerge to desolation that will cause them to linger to a less pleasant extinction. :(

Whatever you're doing to piss off the god's, ya better stop.

News report from the ABC talks of looters and a bull shark at Goodna, 20 miles inland.

The shark was probably just trying to get away from all the rain. Poor thing. :(

Lord Snow
01-12-2011, 06:15 AM
I'd be more worried about the looters, but the shark is impressive.

Oldfart
01-12-2011, 07:20 AM
The bull shark is renowned as a killer, a river and canal dweller.

gekkogecko
01-12-2011, 11:40 AM
Maybe, but the flooding itself has killed more than that bull shark has.

Oldfart
01-12-2011, 07:18 PM
Without doubt. The shark's just another risk for the rescue workers.

Fangtasia
01-12-2011, 08:51 PM
Bull sharks are notorious for attacking people. nasty pieces of work. Bad enough what people/rescuers/etc are dealing with without adding sharks (and i heard the was a croc floating around too) into the equation

Army/police should have permission to shoot looters on sight as far as i'm concerned, low life bastards. Although i did like the mayor of Ipswich's suggestion of using them as flood markers!

The death toll is rising, now at 13 and predicted to go higher :(

Oldfart
01-12-2011, 09:05 PM
Just need to be careful we don't shoot someone checking on their mum's place, or indeed, other looter hunting squads.

Lord Snow
01-12-2011, 10:18 PM
Sharks are cool though. Hopefully it doesn't have the opportunity to get into trouble. In my opinion crocs and gators are worse than sharks. Most sharks take a bite and swim off. Crocs and gators get a hold of you and take you down for a death roll. There's not much of a chance to survive that.

Oldfart
01-12-2011, 11:05 PM
Poor Brazil's copping it worse at the moment, 250+ dead so far in floods and mudslides.

Fangtasia
01-12-2011, 11:10 PM
Some of these bullsharks, it would only take one bite to kill. Bullsharks are aggressive and i highly doubt they take one nibble, they have certainly killed before. Regardless its just another thing the people of the area dont need!

I think i'd rather the croc actually, least it will kill you fairly quickly. Being bitten significantly by a shark, floating in filthy flood waters when you have no idea how long til rescue would be horrid. The blood would attract more said sharks in the vicinity also

PantyFanatic

Every event has it's lunatic fringe.

From the ABC News,

Two people were rescued in Melbourne's east yesterday after riding down the Yarra River on blow-up sex dolls.

The 19-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were riding the dolls at Warrandyte North, when the woman lost grip of her doll in rough water around 4.30pm (AEST).

She grabbed hold of a tree and the man flagged down a passer-by, who contacted police and the State Emergency Service (SES).

The pair was checked by ambulance officers but did not need medical treatment.

Police say the fate of the inflatable dolls is unknown.
