to fly. I find it all so completely out of my control. And do you know how much planes weigh? Really? really?
What terrifies you? Do you avoid it at all costs or do you push yourself through it? More than 24837834972 people have suggested wine makes flying tolerable but I can't drink wine and hold the plane up in the air at the same time. What do you do to get past your fear?

Put it to the back of your mind. M and I travel often these days and this increases our risk of being part of the "one in a million". We both believe in the principle of "a time to die", and the trip to and from the airport is statistically more dangerous.

I'm not fond of ladders, but I use them anyway.

I flew the summer of 09 to NYC and thought it would kill me as we circled above the airport waiting to land.
I don't always love elevators either but have recently learned to enjoy them :p
BTW I have no idea how I will deal when one of you really makes a :teleport:

Phobias are a common phenomenon. Some are more easily managed than others. Only infrequently does one become debilitating.

This is known as the McCoy Phobia, from Star Trek TOS.

I guess it depends on which one of you make one :p

Take heart. They now provide you with free groping at the airport while taking pictures of your private parts. Where else can you have such fun? :)
Heights are what make my stomach turn. Funny, never felt that way as a kid ... and even now, looking out the window of a tall building doesn't bother me ... but put me out where I'm actually looking down :yikes: . Excuse me, I'll back up. :boink:

I can't class it as "terrified" but I get very uncomfortable with open water. I know a number of people that get sick when they pump up the barber chair, but I'm not one of those. Open water is what makes me uneasy now and that's not right for someone who lives on the shore of the Great Lakes. I don't like flying over it and sure don't enjoy "boating" on anything but a river. What is odd is I swim well, was a certified scuba diver at one point, did white-water canoeing for many years. I just know now I couldn't swim any distance today.

Swimming's not the trick PF, floating's the trick.

Why fear flying? You're much more likely to die on the interstate. I trust the unbreakable laws of the universe* to keep a plane in the air about 1000 times more than I trust the idiot next to me in a Hummer talking on his cell phone shooting down the interstate at 15mph over the speed limit.

Sorry, Jude30, panic doesn't work that way. As much as I like physics, I also have to deal with the real world, wherein more than one of my partners has panic disorder.
