I'm loving the weather finally. This year has been so beastly hot. We are still a long way from fall colors here but at least this have cooled down some. I am pretty sure October is my second fave month. What about you? does October do anything special for you?

The peek fall colors are only a week or two away here but everything is turning now. I am happy to see summer heat pass and this one especially. 'Normally' September is that point and my favorite with the fulfilled lushness of the years' productivity and everything is as good as it gets and at rest. It's a gentle slide into October where at its' end winterizing best be well under way. So October is, like horse shoes and hand grenades, close to my favorite. :)

This is around my favorite time of year. Spring!! Lovely weather, not too hot and generally not too cold *L*

I guess spring is my favorite season ... kind of an annual renewal of life and hope ... plus, there's maybe six months of summer and fall before the cold of winter settles in.

Fall comes second because of the colors and the refreshing cool weather after a hot summer. But, I don't like what comes next ... winter. :(

Winter is my favorite. Not just because of the cold, but because of the stillness. Seeing a wonderful full moon on a white landscape. Nothing moving, or even daring to breathe. Breath hanging in the air as the chill creeps into you. The smell of woodsmoke on the air as you take a deep breath. It's a beautiful desolation that is almost beyond words.

I've never experienced that^^^^. Sounds lovely.

I don't get it very often in Tennessee, but when I was living in Connecticut......That was every winter. You just have to be able to stand the -10F degree nights and 20-30F degree days.

I tend to like the variable seasons, and for what they are: the renewal of spring, the high heat of summer, the colors of autumn, the dormancy, chill and stillness of winter. October itself features the birthday of the mammal I married, and also Samhain.

Fall is my favorite season the cool days and nights great camping weather, also the stars seem to shine brighter than in the summer. The fall colors, hearing the ducks and geese fly over and the smell of wood smoke, dosen't get much better!

The leaves are already changed and falling quickly here. Fall seems to start around the second or third week of August for us. We sometimes get our first snow by the end of October! I do really love October, and fall in general. It's squash season!

It's squash season!

And more importantly, hockey season starts.

It makes me older:p
Truthfully I've never been one to dread birthdays and I do love October. The smell of unevironmentally-friendly burning leaves is one of my most favoritists scents. The air is crisp but not cold and we still get the occasional summery day. It's the best.

Our little town features a pumpkin canning plant (about 50% of the US canned pumpkins are from here) and watching dozens upon dozens of trucks from all over the mid-west rolling in to off-load their harvest is fun to see. They pull onto a rack, get fastened down, and the whole rig ... tractor and trailer ... get tilted up to let the pumpkins slide off the truck. Amazing. The plant runs night and day through most of September and October or beyond.

I'd have to count the so-far successful (but also continuing) rescue of the trapped Chilean miners as awesome.

I also love the topics I teach in October. I love teaching kids about nocturnal animals and adaptations. I love it when they start questioning what they have been told or previously held beliefs.

It would have been STO's 38th birthday Saturday the 23rd. I miss him. I have lost a couple of people I never even got to hold in my arms whose birthdays were in October and so October is wistful for me. This thread was part of my effort to remind myself of all the reasons to still love it.

The birthday becomes the remembrance day.
