Something in the Cleveland area, perhapes? Or, maybe something like Gettysburg or the Cumberland Gap? And, I think someone suggested Chattanooga, TN last year. Lots of possiblities. Even someplace like Rapid City, SD and Mt. Rushmore could be in the running.

Do we have a demographic map showing Pixie concentrations?
The closest thing we have was the Pixie Civil Defense (http://www.pixies-place.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21983&highlight=civil+defense) maps and they are FAR from complete. To begin, they only included members that 'requested' to be listed. They were used for a number of events where we had people who we were concerned about but after the initial assembly there was a void of listing requests from current and new members, so they soon fell out of date. After a number of *bumps* and no request from anyone for their use they were put on the shelf with other expired projects.

I am pretty sure I could get Summergirl to Seattle.

All I'd have to do is tell her we were visiting Forks, WA.

She is googoo over all of the Twilight stuff.

All I have to do is open the case to the Twilight DVD and she gets wet.

I actually enjoy it when she's reading one of the books. I know I'm gonna be having sex tonight.

I'd probably have to talk her into not having sex on the square in Forks, WA if we went. It would be hard to even talk her into the car, much less waiting for the hotel room.

There's not much in Indianapolis but I'm sure we could think of something...
There's the Speedway and two nearby racetracks. :) Been to the one north of Fishers and Noblesville (Hoosier Park). Had a great time. (Racetrack and casino combo). I guess the one on the SE side of Indy is even nicer, but we haven't been there.

For shopping there's the new and rather unique Hamilton County Mall (Outdoor mall)

Have a daughter and son-in-law that live there and could probably conjure up other attractions. :boink:

:)

We also like Chattanooga. That new Aquarium sounds fantastic. And, of course, there's the Civil War sites. Another good choice.

PF probably has the closest thing to a demographics list. That list he uses when a disaster strikes and area and he identifies who might be affected.

-----

Oops ... I guess PF already posted that. Me bad.

the aquarium is TWO big buildings that takes a minimum of 2-3 hours to view all of it :) Me & the fam love it. There's "Jack's Alley" with a bunch of restaurants to choose from...Plus lots of other food places around. The Chickamauga Battlefields are close by for the history buffs..as well as Stone Mountain, GA; the Incline; and other such Civil War memorabilia type places/monuments. There's even a "preserved" monument on the side of the hill near my job here...called Boynton Park. There's a Drive-In theater about a 15-20 min drive just outside Chattanooga--a family friendly environment, but fun none the less. Plus, for those that would enjoy the walk through our downtown, we have a walking ghost tour complete with story tellers (Chattanooga Ghost Tours). The Chattanooga Duck tours (by duck boat) on the river and our own Southern Belle Riverboat.

Chattanoogie has long been a fave day trip for me, only 120 miles from Nashville. Also an excellent halfway point for trips to Atlanta, which makes the 'Noog a central point for 2 large well-known southern cities.

Personal fave tourist traps in the area include Ruby Falls (cool caving, but not for claustrophobics) and Lookout Mountain is another great Civil War hangout. Rock City I found overrated, & my acrophobia won't let me even look at the Incline :yikes:

And the TN Aquarium was tres cool when I visited last, if it's been improved it must be overwhelming now.

There is also an historic Rail Road in Chattanooga. Just south of there is the Chicamuga Civil War Battlefield in Georgia, hope I spelled it right. There is also the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel that is Made from Rail Road passenger Cars.

Other than that how about Calgary, or Edmonton Alberta?

You can also find in Chattanooga....

The Station House Restaurant (spiffy, converted from the rail station's baggage room, usually with live entertainment and happy birthday serenade from a talented, and usually hot, serving staff)

Our fabulous little Warner Park Zoo where you can see a wide variety of animals and ladies might get their skirt nibbled on in the petting zoo.

There is also the Bluff View Art District located just a short walk from the Aquarium. There you can visit the beautiful mansion converted into what is now The Hunter Art Museum, browse little shops or snag some coffee at one of the cafes.

Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park located just over the line in Rossville Georgia.

Or maybe a day trip to the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg.

We've lots of options to choose from. It just depends on if you want the big city or the little city with a little bit of history.

And yes, we do have Starbucks! You won't go without caffeine, great bbq or some(one)thing fun to do.

Lord Snow
08-07-2010, 10:38 PM
Lynchburg is a bit of a drive from Chattanooga I believe. It's literally only a little over an hour from where I live.

dicksbro
08-08-2010, 04:51 AM
Is there someone in the area that'd be willing to look for perhapes hotels that might offer discounts for five or more rooms ... and scope out a nice restaurant for the group to have one special meal together usually the night before we break up and return home?

Lord Snow
08-08-2010, 07:19 AM
I don't know about a nice restaurant, but there's usually an Applebee's somewhere. Unless of course Lilith doesn't want a repeat with with mudslides lol.

Thanks Sis (ChainedHeart is my little sister :) ) for the additional info. I'm going to ask my father-in-law (who happens to work for a hotel) about his hotel or if he knows of any that might could help us in that area....there's another one too, that I just happen to have gone to school with the manager...so I will put some feelers out.

Chattanooga sounds like a location with interests enough and still not so much a tourist attraction to make it overly expensive for a lot of us. It seems to be within travel distance for many of our members, ISN'T in the middle of the desert, LILITH and Tennessee has reciprocity with Ohio.:thumb:

If all remains stable this next year, I'm IN!

With everything being done this year it looks like next year will be a go. I know the way to Nashville, it should be easy to find my way from there.
It is...take the same path as PAGANashville, just keep right to I-24 instead of left to I-40. All the signs are marked "to Chattanooga" if you get confused.

My advice, if you pass thru any time in the afternoon, 24/40 will be at a standstill...a better route may be to get off I-65 at Briley Pkwy, towards Opryland Hotel...it connects to 24 just south of the 24/40 split. Traffic might still be slow, but usually not as bad as going thru town.

Oldfart
08-14-2010, 02:06 AM

Hey, Chattanooga's not that far away. About 8 months and it'll be time to take a ride on the Choo-Choo! :)

Do we have any more info on the when and where? I believe the June date was picked and that is fine with us.

P.S. have not got a Kazoo yet

In picking a hotel, you might check. Most will up the discount if some number of rooms (five or more) are reserved. They'll set up a group name (like "Pixies") and when others make reservations they simply say they're part of the Pixies group. :) Probably don't need the group name just yet ... maybe around March.

Also, check on prices for both standard rooms and suites if they're available. Usually one or two (or more) opt for a suite just to have a bit more room or a fridge in the room or something.

With moving in March I won't be able to make this one either. :(

You sure you couldn't just "take a chip off the ol' block?"

Seriously, we'll miss you.

Ok...I have had ZERO luck by calling around to local hotels. Which seriously irritates me to no end! LOL! However, I've found some pretty nifty deals at hotels.com for the weekend we are looking at.

Funny you post that now, SC. :) Almost at the same minute, SD and I were exchanging PM's about this.

This past very event filled week has been busier for some of us than others. ShadowDancer and I had been digging more information/preparation for PAGAN-11 which is only 2 months away. That was just before she started moving her family into their new home  ................... and the tornadoes that blew away half the south last week. :yikes: I got a message the night of the storms saying they were "under a State Emergency here. Back to back tornado warnings, heavy rain, hail, wind, etc." She was without power for some time and no internet set up, but safe and sound. :wish:

In the meantime:rolleyes:............... we have found great accommodation and at very reasonable prices. Microtel Inn Chattanooga Hamilton Place can give us one bed rooms for $47/night and two bed rooms for $53/night. We were very happy about the rates, especially with this motel having higher ratings than more pricey operations. :D We have set up a coordinator with a real live person and at the actual location rather than India. :hair: You can PM me for the email package I was sent or call 'Ashley Walker' directly at 423-510-0761 and tell here you are part of the Pixie Group.

I have tried to contact a few of our active members and hope to hear from others soon.

I know, I know...I've not been around as much nor as informative as I should've been. There has been SO much go on down here in my little section of the south lately. As PF has mentioned, above, it's been crazy! I don't, at the moment, have regular internet access..and good enough signal on my phone is hit or miss most times. Hopefully, my home-based internet sitch will soon be resolved. There are still peeps nearby who have power & no Net. A BIG HUGE thank you and hug to PF for helping me out while I'm away. Hopefully I will rejoin my wonderful Pixies family soon & I hope to see some of you in June :)

A whole lot of things are conspiring against our making it. I think this economy; rising prices (gas and everything else); tax increases, etc. are all making it tough. :(

Too many negatives this year. Economy pretty much in the tank, too many extra expenses, gas prices high, taxes up ... lots of problems and the end isn't in sight. Dang it.

Well, if you wait long enough there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Just not sure if it's the sun, the glow from heaven, or the fires of hell. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I seems Memorial Day is an appropriate time to officially pronounce PAGAN-11 dead. http://serve.mysmiley.net/sick/sick0004.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net)
In spite of many wishing to meet and explore Chattanooga together, it seems fate has giving a variety of roadblocks to almost each of us this time. From major conflicting schedules to outrageous travel costs to a still very uncertain economy, we will forego the event this year. I can only endorse how very special and rewarding our past gatherings have been and say I still look forward to future opportunities to share a very different fellowship with extraordinary people.
