Yeah, maybe we're going to get about 60cm+ of snow. And there's still stuff from the last minor storm hanging around on the ground. We have this offering: http://snowpocalypsedc.com/ . But you know, I'm finding just about the right amount of irony. Vancouver has had to truck in snow for two of the Olympic venues (Cedar mountain, for the snowboarding & freestyle skiing venues: see http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1248425/Vancouver-Olympic-chiefs-truck-snow-combat-citys-warmest-winter-record.html?ITO=1490 ), but nobody has been talking aobut canceling tonights's ice hockey game in DC due to snow.

They just said on the Weather Channel that Baltimore has received about 20" and it was still snowing http://bestsmileys.com/cold/9.gif. Sounds like you and jseal will be staying in today.

dicksbro,

I would be happy to oblige, but my pictures range from 2+ to 3+ MB each. I will need someone's assistance to boil them down to satisfy the site's limits.

All these pics were courtesy of Oldfart, who "right-sized" them for Pixies-Place.

Kudos to Oldfart! :thumb:

Due west towards downtown, and a pic of Dearsweet taking a pic of me taking a pic of her taking ...

They were great pics and always happy to help.

Did I tell you it's only going into the early 90s here today?

Scarecrow

OF that last comment was not needed. It is a balmy 28 here today

Great pictures, jseal! Our thanks to OF for resizing them so we could all get a glimpse! Liked yours of Philly, too, Rhiannon! Thanks!

I see between today and tonight (Monday) ... we're expecting 4-8" with more snow tomorrow. I think scarecrow is right, global warming is having it's effect. Brrrrrrrrr.

So, I'm back after living through the 14 -hour power outage, and even longer internet outage. As measured in a non-drift area of our yard, 83cm (about 33inches). More snow on the way tomorrow, predicted anywhere from 10cm to 25cm (4in to 10in). Bring it on, bitches!

Naked snow angels tonight, it will have to be after dark, if I can persuade my wife to go out with the camera and document such. No point in doing it if I can't document it, even though I hate to have my picture taken.

Yeah, I told Dearsweet that she could expect 8 inches or so tomorrow evening, and she asked who I was bringing home to have dinner with us. :(

A couple of gallons of cordial or coke concentrate and you can have the BEST snowcones.

You could fix them and stick them in the freezer to save them for July. :boink:

More great pictures jbh!! Thanks.

But just think, if another foot falls tonight, maybe he can finally have one. If an arm falls the night after, he's halfway there.

This is Free Trader Beowulf calling...
power situation uncertain, may be approaching critical...
no firewood to be had...
road crews in this area have stopped working, due to dangerous blizzard conditions...
PEPCO line crews have stopped working, due to whiteout conditions...
This is Free Trader Beowulf calling anyone...

We've got the same conditions here in the Northern VA DC suburbs. I grew up in Ohio and went to college in NY and this is probably in my top 5 worst snow events. It sure is pretty though....

More great pictures, jbh3 although it looks COLD!

We had a lot of sunshine yesterday and that helped clear off our streets. Still going to be fairly chilly though (highs in the 20's) so we're not going to lose what's on the ground very fast.

jbh, I especially enjoyed the pic of the stream: which one is that?

And just in case you get complacent, a repost of somethign I put in my blog this morning:
From the National Weather Service:
Statement as of 6:58 AM EST on February 11, 2010
... Winds will continue blowing and drifting of snow today...

The snow storm is well away from the mid Atlantic coast... but
gusty winds continue across the region this morning. Exposed areas
will continue to experience blowing and drifting of snow
today from surface winds of 20 to 30 mph... causing difficult and
at times... treacherous travel.

Motorists should be alert to rapidly changing Road conditions due
to snow drifting on roads. Motorists should also be prepared to
encounter brief localized white-out conditions.

Don't think that your fancy 4WD SUV will save you from all an sundry: if you can't see, you can't see, and a 4WD vehicle isn't going to let you see. And if you are driving, make sure you clean off the roofs of your vehicles, as well. Blowing snow & ice chunks are a serious hazard to other drivers on the road.

Oh, yes, BTW, this is now "officially" the snowiest winter in DC history, with 55.6" total measured at National airport...though why the powers what is insist that the airport is somehow representative of the DC area is beyond me.

Oldfart

Weather stations are at airports and such.

Gekko...Not sure of the name of the stream at that point but it eventually turns into Red House Run....joins with Herring Run and makes its way to Back River.

Here's a link of that bridge in sunnier times!!

We're expecting 2-6" of snow today. That may not sound like much to some of you northern Pixies, but here in Texas, that's enough to shut things down for the day.

There's a 30% chance we'll get a little tonight and tomorrow, but it doesn't look like any accumulation to speak of.
