I'm sorry Dicksbro,but I just found out,that if O'Bamas Healtcare is passed,
your treatments will not be "Cost Effective"!But you will be counseled on
"Dying with Dignity"If you are 65 or older, money cannot be wasted upon you!
And here we thought that we were "Busting our asses" so that we would have an enjoyable future in our "Older Years!" Irish
Where'd you find out about that, Irish?
Sounds like right wing propaganda to me.

Dick Cheney told Rumsfeld to set it up that way, Condee said you should be punished if you disagree and the bobble-head said "Ahha, Ahha :cboy:".

Irish,
There will be winners and losers anytime there is a social change, and different people will have differing ideas about who the winners and the losers are. However, if there really are changes THAT extraordinary, I suspect that the bill will not get the votes needed to pass into law.

I thought it was it was humorous, Irish. :)
Seriously, though, there are a lot of worries that our health care system will suffer the same as in other countries where socialized medicine is in place. I share those worries. The small stuff gets seems to get good, prompt treatment at government (read your taxes) expense. The more costly surgeries and advanced treatments often happen too late or not at all. I hope that's not what our contry faces, but I fear that we might.
On the other hand, I see a lot of companies (in the US) dumping insurance programs because of costs leaving many without any coverage. I think a lot are basing in on the hopes the government will take over and they'll get out of the business. Too bad.

It's good to see you understand that when you throw out one miserable soulsucking parasite, another takes it's place.

Dear People of the United States of America
Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown of the
economy, your Government has decided to implement a scheme to put
workers 50 years of age and older on early retirement. This scheme will
be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).
Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to the government to be eligible
for the SHAFT scheme (Special Help After Forced Termination).
Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW
program (Scheme Covering Retired Early Workers). A person may be RAPED
once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as the government deems
appropriate.
Only persons who have been RAPED can get AIDS (Additional Income for
Dependants & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel
Early Severance). Obviously, persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be
SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by the government.
Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on, will receive as much SHIT
(Special High Intensity Training) as possible. The government has always
prided itself in the amount of SHIT it gives out. Should you feel that
you do not receive enough SHIT, please bring this to the attention of
your Congressman. They have been trained to give you all the SHIT you
can handle.
Sincerely
President Barak Obama

While discussing the upcoming Universal Health Care Program with my sister-in-law the other day, I think we have found the solution. I am sure you have heard the ideas that if you're a senior you need to suck it up and give up the idea that you need any health care. A new hip? Unheard of. We simply can't afford to take care of you anymore. You don't need any medications for your high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. Let's take care of the young people. After all, they will be ruling the world very soon.
So here is the solution. When you turn 70, you get a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 senators and 2 representatives. Of course, you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head and all the health care you need!!! New teeth, great!!! Need glasses, no problem. New hip, knee, kidney, lung, heart? Well bring it on. And who will be paying for all of this. The same government that just told you that you are too old for health care. And, since you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income tax. Irish :yikes:

Everyone in the USA is absolutely entitled to their opinion. I get hung up on words and tend to take them at face value. Posting that something 'will' happen is a statement of fact. When that's the case, I often research it myself to see if it's true. I've seen a recent email about legislation in progress that had some fact, a lot of exaggeration, and some flat out lies. I admit I wrongfully assumed your information was likely coming from an email of that nature and for that I apologize.
As far as left wing/right wing propaganda, there is certainly such on both sides. From my personal perspective though, I've seen much more coming from the right.

What one perceives as being propaganda can be heavily influenced by one’s POV.
Exactly.
Hence the inclusion of the words, "personal perspective", in my post.

Irish,
There you have it. Someone’s useful data is propaganda to another. This controversial legislation will not, I believe, be voted on until after Congress’ summer recess. Perhaps the final bill will be less worrisome.
jseal,
What 'useful data' are you talking about?

Aqua,
Are you suggesting that what someone considers propaganda cannot be considered useful information by another? You have already agreed that one’s POV can influence one’s assessment.

Hell no they are trying to get it passed before recess (UM school ground reference all too appropriate) because many house members know they will catch @#$% when they go home on recess..... too bad we can't get the tooth paste back in the tube

Depends on how you define useful. Some might define an outright lie as useful if it will coerce someone into voting a specific way, subscribing to a specific belief or getting a signature on a petition.
I'm sure there are some that would consider such information useful indeed.
I do not.

Aqua,
I am sure that some people really and truly believe that there will come a day when politicians will not lie/shade or spin the truth/deemphasize the inconvenient, etc. to achieve their goals.
I am not a member of that group.
How about if we wait to see what the final bill looks like before deciding “it is bad” or “it is good”?

I wasn't discussing politicians specifically, but since you've brought it up I will add that I do not have much hope that either. Unfortunately that's part of the 'game'.
I also wasn't discussing a specific bill, but I agree that actually reading the bill and deciding for yourself if it's good or bad is the best course.
What I was discussing is the propaganda being emailed and posted in blogs (and generally not authored by a politician) that warn of terrible things happening in the legislature (State and/or Federal) and proceeds to detail (for example) all the ways in which your rights will be stripped away if bill such and such passes, even though there are no such provisions written into the bill. Of course, that's also assuming the bill in question actually exists.

While I do not consider that behavior unfortunate, we do agree on this long-term prospect of politicians.

Yes, although I usually rely on an analysis or review by an unbiased third party (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/16/AR2009071602242.html).

Yes. Extremist views are a nuisance, and can distract attention from important unresolved issues. See above.

Before anyone gets thier "panties in a bunch" The last two posts that I made,
were strictly because I,personally, thought that they were funny! If people put
as much thought into constructing a bill as goes into making words stand for as much as they do in these e-mails,all of our problems would be solved! As for
myself & MOST of the people that I,personally, know, they usually figure things
out & don't make decisions based on propaganda! They decide on what affects
them personally. If only everyone used that much consideration! Irish :argue:

In my opinion that is the worst way to make decisions and is the crux of the problem we had with the previous administration.

Our health benefits are available through my wife's employer.
On the plus side of the current proposals, at least the CBO alerted Congress of the financing problem BEFORE the bill was voted on. :thumb: Now hold the line on the coverage and find a budget neutral way of financing it.
