New critters of the wild type.

I'd noticed a few green tree frogs around this place, so i put out some foam boxes with water in it for them, well they obviously liked it *L*, i got tadpoles!! I'm watching and taking pics of them as they grow, they better be GTF not cane toads!! (if their toads they're gonna meet their maker!)

The new 3ft is now filled (done 25th Dec 08), so should have fish at some stage, no hurry there, need to make sure the wood has finished leaching tannins (not that they should be leaching at all!! I had then in a tank for 2 yrs with no tannins at all! Ahhhhhhhh)

UPDATE:

Angels ate the eggs, quite a few fungused up, so something wasnt right.It was suggested because the layed the eggs on the filter the water flow washed the males milt away before it fertalised them, sounds right to me. The filter is now gone and been replaced with a sponge type filter, more suitable anyway. So fingers crossed for the next batch.

Bristlenose eggs have hatched!! Once they absorb the yolk i'll try for some pics.

I bought a new (used) tank today *L* Bilbo is glaring at me *L*. Its a 4ft, i'll be using it as a growout tank. Bigger the tank the faster the BN fry will grow, the faster i can move them on.

The 5ft is going great guns after the rescape.

In this pic, herc is a bit blurry, but see the little bristlenose on the glass, it would be around 4cm, so Herc is a BIG boy (14.5cm TL)!

I finished the 5ft rescape today. Started last night about 8pm Friday night (17th Apr 09), pulled up at 2am Sat morning (pulling plants, catching fish, draining water, removing old substrate, fully cleaning tank, getting wood just how i wanted it *L*, put in layer of laterite and dino duno, wash new gravel and put in). Started again around 8am finished around 4ish (adding 350 litres of water by the cup full, sorting and planting, clean filter and get the 'darn' thing to go again *L*, turn heater on) so approx 14 hours of work, but i love it lol

Now i'm just waiting for it to come upto temperature before adding some fish in.

The cories will not be returning (shocking for digging and knocking out new plants), now the yoyo loaches (diggers, and i dont want them messing my substrate *L*), nor the larger clown loaches (just started punching holes in my plant leaves), i'm going to trade these for smaller clown loaches (small enough to do no harm!)

Oh and a suprise *L* I bought a very large peppermint bristlenose male months ago, hadnt seen it since i put it in there...thankfully it is still alive and i am VERY happy to see him!!!

My cichlids have been doing this weird thing were they are like kissing and then swimming in circles fast touching eachother side by side. Is it possible I'm going to see babies????? Do you know if they have babies or lay eggs???

What type of cichlids do you have again? I remember you saying they look like my Maingano. If they're Maingano then they are mouth brooders & egg layers. The female will lay them on the substrate, then pick them up in her mouth, she'll then hassle the male to get him to release milt which she will take into her mouth to fertilize the eggs. The eggs will stay in her mouth until they a free swimming fry

Update:
The piece of wood is finally settling down with releasing tannins. Only slight tinge now, so shouldn't be long before it stops altogether.

I've finally got around to putting a black background on the tank, i think it looks far better.

Scooby Doo....

Scooby hasn't been well :( He cant eat or drink without gagging, he's lost so much condition over the last week and a bit, he looks bad sadly.

He has a vet visit today....please keep my old boy in your thoughts....i'm hoping they can help him live more years yet...but i dunno....got that bad feeling.

OF ~ We got him at 12 weeks.

Sadly Scoob had a tumor that was near his heart, looked to be around his aorta. It went to his lungs and was partially blocking his windpipe. I chose to have him pts as he was starting to suffer from its presence.

I will seriously miss him. He was picked up this morning by Pets in Peace. He is to be cremated and returned to us, his family.

He was blessed. Many humans don't get that much love in an entire lifetime.

Lot's of hugs, Noah. I know we were deeply saddened when our cat, Pokey, passed away. He's buried in our back yard with a concrete "kitty statue" marking his resting place.
