We have Sing To Me Baby (http://www.pixies-place.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7977), a mixed bag of all sorts of fave songs, we have Sad Songs (http://www.pixies-place.com:81/forums/showthread.php?t=33471), which I have steered myself away from on more than one occasion but keep being drawn to, and now, fellow Pixies, here is a thread for our fave happy or super positive songs :D
Any song that makes you want to jump for joy, sing for your country, kiss a stranger, dance in the street, wave your arms in the air post right here and bring me some cheer

I am not fond of "happy" music. It's all cheezy to me. I'm more into pain and angst :D It's usually more passionate.

Anything made by Weird Al or Axle the Sot. I love my silly songs. Otherwise, I'm with Lil on this. Most of my music is classic sex drugs and rock and roll, or something dark.

99.999 times out of 100, I'm with her. Sad songs seem to plumb the deepest darkest part of my soul to an extent that "happy" songs almost never reach...they're mostly sap, like painting a happy face on a sucking chest wound will somehow save the patient...
Wow...
Did I ever lay on the mixed metaphors with that last sentence...that said, there is one happy song that my toes find irresistible to tapping along, every time I hear those three simple chords in the intro...I know, it's pure fluff, & I love it. (Maybe it's something about the singer Katrina, in the video she's not just another anorexic punk grrl spilling her angst all over...she's real, & she convinces me that she might really be Walking On Sunshine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eONhto0x_nI)

Ok you fun lovin' peeps,
I'm BIG on happiness. So I'll jump into this all the way, headfirst, bellyflop, can-opener you name it here's my "HAPPY SONGS " contrib.
Sunny Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmcdBnj4ZOg) always filled me with a special pumpkin pie kind of feel good!
If that wasn't enough, then I'd reminisce on old times when we were Happy Together (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkVM-jGNn04). Now, do you believe me?
OK then Sing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdBsbyaTRwo) loud as you can!!!!!

Some great songs here, not to mention some funny vids on youtube! PF, the vid you posted for Don't Worry, Be Happy! with the animals had me crying laughing, as did the hand shadows on What A Wonderful World :p
citrus, Happy Together, what a great song, thanks for posting that, I've not heard it for years.
Lord Snow, I'm with you on silly songs, and Weird Al has done some funny stuff. I'm reposting now from the Sing To Me Baby thread, but Black Lace's Agadoo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POv-3yIPSWc) has to be mentioned on this thread :p Great song!
Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVwFeQpy_Us) makes me want to jump up and sing.
Scotz, I over-listened to Walking On Sunshine during its re-released mid-90's so it doesn't have the same effect on me now as during its initial release a decade earlier, but I know what you mean
I loved listening to Tommy Steele as a child, a couple from him here: What A Mouth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h5MbndXTS0) and Flash Bang Wallop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCxA05gVrj0) are two that come to mind, there are many more :) I love the way youtube links to forgotten songs of past years. Found this classic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7GeZ3YmONw) when I was searching, and who can't smile at a bit of George Formby (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayL0H7p8RlQ) who is not, in that link, cleaning windows ;)

Lord Snow I refrained from posting a link to The Chipmunks yesterday but since you've brought them into this thread, I'll post one from them, too :D This one is for Pixies' resident lover of big butts, Aqua: I Like Big Butts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clXaf4Gg6bg) :thumb:

Unfortunately, that's not really the chipmunks as far as I can tell. It sounds more like someone just speeding up the recording. Still funny as hell.

I didn't look any further than the name but yes, it more than likely is just speeded up, not the real Chipmunks. Funny though and makes me smile :p

Thank You For The Music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0xblsa_u1c) HAS to have a place on this thread  I can't even leave it at a link, I have to sing it :D
I'm nothing special, in fact I'm a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
'cause everyone listens when I start to sing
I'm so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud
So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me
Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
She says I began to sing long before I could talk
And I've often wondered, how did it all start?
Who found out that nothing can capture a heart
Like a melody can?
Well, whoever it was, I'm a fan
So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me
I've been so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair
I wanna sing it out to everybody
What a joy, what a life, what a chance!
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

OMG! how much happiness can my heart handle? I mean, To know, know, know, her (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZLaSJ_GJz0) . . . to love, love, love him (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCnUsInBQws). I remember ALL of this stuff! Not quite as well as my older brother, but I had some friends whose sisters and brothers had the record players (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVbjh7zbZ7s) and we went to their homes and had mini sock-hops of our own at home. This is real life and being alive and being kids. Nothing anywhere's near the iPod generation. Sometimes there were six, seven, or eight of us playing records, drinking lemonade and doing the Stroll or Pony or Wiggle. True love  blossomed all afternoon, until suppertime :fone: :boohoo: and everyone dispersed back to their respective homes!

To know him is to love him (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCnUsInBQws)Did you notice in the upper right corner of the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCnUsInBQws), at 2m:12s there is a five pulse flashing white rectangle?
Here's the factoid that makes that little trivia relevant.
In the early times of network television, many affiliates would break away from the feed program to air their local advertising. Since it was done manually the network would manually send a visual signal to the local broadcaster that meant in fifteen seconds the network will broadcast its own advertising to the national affiliates whom wished to air the feed. The local affiliate could then break from the network feed to air their own local programming for precisely one minute.
Sometimes the local station would fuck up and forget to switch on to their own commercials, or worse, switch late to their own programming. That is why we so frequently saw a few seconds of the network commercials that got cut mid sentence for the corny car commercials and:spam:that would always run beyond the return time and cause us to miss so many seconds of the program we wanted to see! :fix:
That was before the discovery that the technology could have an electronic signal embedded in the broadcast band that would automatically turn on the local affiliate's playback machines to air local adverts, and then automatically return the local affiliate's to the network upon a specifically engineered end signal. ON TIME!

Citrus, I knew some of that ^^^ :thumb: Or at least something like that. There used to be a flashing circle or something in the corner on movies, indicating it was soon time to change the reel. I also remember there were two stripes, smaller than the square in the vid you posted, and I always used to watch out for it. I think that was a similar thing whereby it showed the commercial break was on its way
Happy Hour by The Housemartins (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ehden6aPl0) (with a line-up of Paul Heaton later from The Beautiful South and Norman Cook, later to become Fatboy Slim) is an excellent, excellent song that has to have a place on this thread. The video is worthy of nearly 3 minutes of anyone's time, and both song and video take me back to some very happy times in my life :D Love it!
Happy Talking by Captain Sensible (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF2ImyQjzyc) is another that brings with it great memories!
Happy talking talking happy talk
Talk about things you'd like to do
You've got to have a dream
If you don't have a dream
How ya gonna have a dream come true?

==========
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen
Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the musics high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
Youre in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the dancing queen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfoc-dTG_1c), young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen
Youre a teaser, you turn em on
Leave them burning and then youre gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
Youre in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen
Annifrid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog. =ABBA
look for the spanish mix with the additional lyrics. It's truly lovely and equally exciting both languages!!
