Also known as "testing the smoke detector?"
What are you baking, Lilith?

I destroyed what were previously known as Malted Milk Ball Cookies.

Mmmm, malted milk balls AKA Whoppers, my favorite from the days when I could eat sugar with impunity...
Don't think of it as failure, do like Tom Edison after his efforts failed...he said he now knew one more way not to create an electric light....

Happily it's not a bun in the oven.

That's me...I can't bake. 5 moves later, and I still set off the smoke alarm. It's not the oven...although I still blame it on that :D

I am once again going to tempt the fates and explore the realm of cookie baking today. If you smell smoke call 911.

If I smell smoke *from your baking in Florida* all the way up here, I think it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late for 911.
Plus the fact that it would be a fuckin' miracle.

My toffee did not turn out :(
It was the one thing I am making that I love.
Now I'm burning snickerdoodles. Mr. Lil's favorite.
BTW I have heard a lot of peeps say they are not in the spirit this year. Me neither but by Goddess I'll fake it til I make it.

Wish I had the time to burn, errr attempt to bake. I'm so out of practice.
I keep smiling at people and wishing them a Merry Christmas but as soon as they are out of sight the bah hum bug comes back out.

I understand SDLS I really do. Between $$, cancer striking at several people I am close to, and my eldest deciding that his life sucks and I am alllllllllllllll to blame, I could just say fuck it and spend Xmas in the bed. But I don't. I won't.
So I have now made Ranger cookies, Chocolate Andes cookies, and am trying those malted milk ball ones again.

Christmas in bed, fucking Lilith. yum.
Lil...how did the malted milk ball cookies turn out? It does sound like you got the hang of baking again. :)
BTW...Totally understand about the bah humbug stuff. SOS happened again this year, here. And, lots of people I run into are tired of all of the commercialism.

The smoke cloud from mrs zoid's efforts has cleared a little, so I'll be trying to work my magic with deviled eggs now...

I think just about everyone is in the Bah Hum Bug frame of mind. Usually I love Christmas, but this year it just seems like one more headache. My aunt has done quite a bit of baking. Cookies and breads. She's pretty good, but I miss my mom's home made apple pies. She makes the best pie crust. No one lets me play with the oven. I'm allowed to make chili and that's it.

I can not say enough times that I will never ever bake cookies without parchment paper again. It was awesome. Allllllllllllllllll the cookies turned out well. I am truly amazed.
I even dared fudge.

I admire all your efforts, I'm impressed  :xmas:
I tried my hand at candied almonds yesterday and for the second year running ended up with almonds coated in huge lumps of sugar :bang head: I realized my mistake was to not use a slotted spoon when putting them on the parchment paper to cool  This is what comes of reading a recipe in a foreign language and thinking I don't need to look in the dictionary to figure out what ended up to be a vital word. :o
If I get aggressive with them later and try to bash some of the excess sugar away I might be able to make them a little more edible than they currently are :p

Mrs zoid's stuffing was successfully consumed by all, with no need for stomach-pumping, & just a touch of heartburn for herself. All my deviled eggs were consumed devilishly.

I made deviled eggs too. This year I added Frank's Red Hot Sauce. Added some zip!
