Longtime Atlanta Braves fans like me will be saddened to hear of the death of Skip Carey (http://www.comcast.net/articles/sports-general/20080804/Obit-Skip.Caray/) at age 68. His was not the most pleasant voice on the air, but there was no escaping that foghorn delivery even in the noisiest environment, & when he expressed his opinions, you knew it wasn't just parroting the Company Line (he once joked that he didn't read the TBS memos, he threw them away figuring there would be a pink slip inside someday.

It just broke my heart when I first heard this news the other night. The last time I saw him on the air he didn't sound very well. :(
R.I.P. Skip, you called one hell of a ballgame sir. :thumb:

He didn't quite have the fire in his belly last time I heard him either. He had lost a lot of weight last year trying to manage his diabetes, & looked a little rough. During the off-season he lasped into a coma for a few days, & when he awoke w/his whole family standing around he said, "Where the hell am I, & what the hell are all you people doing here?!"
Classic Skip. RIP Harry Carey Jr.
