There are an abundance of dating websites that boast "free memberships". But when you join, you find you only get VERY limited access unless you "upgrade to a premium package" which are usually pretty costly. Does anyone know of a truly free dating website that is of some quality. Not really looking for the type of website where the "members" are seeking marriage, if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance for any info.

Do you want a booty call, or a date?

I was once a very active "online meet and date someone" person.
(Some of you already know why I don't do that any more)

But it was a lot different then. This was before eHarmony and Match.com and the rest. Please keep in mind I am writing about just a few years ago, as recent as 2001.

Then you went to to a free site, and met in chat. No personal adds.
There were some *ahem* alternate types of sites, sites for those of us with more focused or "special" interests and desires, and some of them had adds and charged a small fee.
I belonged to a few of them. But that was the past. Loneliness is big business now.
Nowdays they charge as part of their screening. Nobody wants to be sued.

I would suggest, if you are trying to avoid being charged and just want to meet, do it the old fashioned way, meet in the chat rooms of free sites.

But be ready to be disappointed.

Two sites the come to mind that allow free interaction are Webdate.com and Matchdoctor.com. I met a couple of people on each at one time... alas the be prepared to be disappointed warning holds true on some cases so proceed with due caution.

Unfortunately, nowadays chat rooms are a joke. most of what's in them are porn bots. at least the ones i used to frequent. you could try www.gothicpersonals.com. I've talked to a few nice people on there, but nothing ever came of it. no chat rooms, but you can e-mail and post an add for free.
