Hi Everyone!!
I know it's been a while since I've been around, but truth be told I just haven't been feeling all that great for a few months now. It turns out I need to have one of the valves in my heart replaced. The surgery will be this Friday, April 4. I've got a fantastic doctor, thank goodness. I expect to be in the hospital about a week, give or take a couple days. I really would appreciate your prayers, good thoughts, or whatever.

This is almost McSurgery,SS. It still has it's dangers, but there's nothing experimental about it and the valves are better than the real thing.

Even such a good heart needs a little maintenence once in a while, I guess...I know minor surgery is something that happens to someone else, good luck, best wishes, get better soon, & then get your ass back here with the people that love you.

I remember several years ago when they first talked of doing it but you had to lose a certain amount first. Have you lost the weight of has it become more necessary?
Best of luck.

Thank you all so very, very much for the kind words, prayers and "orders." I will do what I can to get word to you all and let you know how things have gone.
Lilith, no I haven't lost the weight, but apparently it isn't an issue. Or it could be because the valve is just about closed and there's really not much of an option on getting it done. However, I am hoping that I can lose some as a by-product of my rehab, and then go on from there.
Gekkogecko, I suppose I will be able to watch hockey, assuming the Wings are on cable or if I break down and watch The Blues.

Yeah, I know, Nutworld, it's blasphemous. But then they do have Manny Legace, and it's fun to root against them. :weg:

SS: listening to the Caps' game while doing paying work tonight. Several radio ads to the effect that the Red Wings get NBC's nationally televised game Sunday to round out the season.
Hope you do get to see it.

Thanks for the "heads up" GG!! If I'm awake enough and pain-free enough, I'll definitely be watching! I'll just have to not get too excited, if the Wings are playing well. I'll tell hubby and he can watch the game with me.

According to an email that came in late last night, our den mother is doing fine. :)
She was first in this morning at 8:30 or so and was out by 1:30. ..... They put the mechanical valve in, along with a temporary pacemaker. However, her heart isn't using the pacemaker at all - it's using the new valve all on it's own, so that appears to be a really good sign. .... She's still unconscious, though, and probably will be until at least tomorrow......
It sounds like she will be able to test the new parts on Sunday when the Black Hawks beat the Red Wings. :hockey:

SugarSprinkles didn't get to see the game Sunday with no TVs being in ICU but was happy to hear the result. :hockey:
She has be getting therapeutic exercise and was scheduled to move to a real room with a TV today. She seems to be doing pretty well for somebody that had their chest hacked into, laid open and when they dug down to her pulsing heart, affixed a repairs. As routine as that may seem to have become, it is still a matter of note when your insides are outside, even for a little while.
She hopes to be home by the end of the week and tending to her knitting :) ............ or crocheting or needle stitching or whatever it is she does so well.

Hi Everyone! Just checking in to let you all know they "sprung" me yesterday. I've still got pain, and a few unexpected side effects which I hope won't last long. Typing is difficult. Therefore too, is knitting, crocheting and any other kind of needlework I may want to do *winks at PF*
Thank you all for all your prayers and good thoughts. And THANK YOU, PF most of all for keeping everyone updated for me. I really do appreciate it more than I can say.
Gotta run......I'm watching the Wings/Nashville game and it's 1-0 Wings!! YAYYYY!!!
