Politics makes for strange bedfellows.

Well since you don't vote for or against countries it is bullshit. Glad you recognized it might be. These countries may not vote with the US on resolutions put forth. That is their perrogative and it is their duty to vote in the best interest of the countries they represent. US foreign policy is in the toilet.

OK I went to snopes and they say it is true that these countries do vote "against" the US in that they vote opposite of the way we vote. It's semantics. And still bullshit.

I feel this type of email crap is just hate-mongering.

As the world's richest country and only super power, Do you think it's bad to give Aid to country's which need it? Would you much rather see innocent people die because they're government voted on the opposite side of a vote to your country?

the E-mail states that Pakistan votes 75% against the United States yet Receives $6,721,000 annually in US Foreign Aid. This works out at 2 cents per person per year! (based on a US pop of 301,139,947) Now if you want your 2 cents i'll happily send a Dollar to you to make sure that the next 50 years of your aid is taken care of!

"Perhaps it is time to get out of the UN and give the tax savings back to the American workers who are having to skimp and sacrifice to pay the taxes (and gasoline)".

has the person which composed the e-mail thought about the loss of revenue which might happen if the US withdrew from the UN?

also if you compaired the price paid in the US for gas to elsewhere in the world you would see it much cheaper in comparison to many other countries.

Sorry rant over now

Irish,

I would agree with those who point pout that the foreign policy of foreign nations is intended to advance the interests of those nations. Some have highly developed, even passionate, opinions about what the U.S. Foreign Policy should attempt to do. It might possibly, as some have argued, be an attempt to advance the interests of America.

While I seldom consider factually accurate statements hateful, I would suggest that you take these numbers with a pinch of salt. There are, we are told "… three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.".

I think a more careful examination of the particulars, which are hidden within the gross statistics from the email will reveal a rather different story than that suggested in the email. Let us accept the 75% percent figure for Pakistan. The question might be raised “which are the 25% where Pakistan votes ‘with’ the U.S.”? If one places too great a reliance on the “percentage voted against the U.S. in the United Nations”, one may overlook the ongoing assistance being provided by that nation in NATO’s efforts to stabilize Afghanistan, and continuing American efforts to eliminate al-Qaida, whose leaders hide in the area bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan.

As for the claim that “these countries hate us”, always keep in mind that it is the governments of these nations which cast the votes, and as those governments change, so to do the votes.

I agree, although doubtless others do not, that in the arena of foreign affairs, "Nations have no permanent friends and no permanent enemies. Only permanent interests.".

Perhaps we should look into why 70-80% of the proposals that the US puts forth in the UN are injurious to the interests of the majority of the Arab or Muslim world.

If you consider that 70% is going to bribes, skimming, kick backs, extortion, flat out theft and waste, how much of what leaves your pocket is really "aid" by the time it reaches a hungry mouth?

How True! One example is that Saddams private Yacht is now being actioned
off.It has solid gold faucets! That could have fed alot of starving Iraquis.I know this has nothing to do with aid but it exemplifies just how little many
rulers care about the starving "commoner".It's amazing how little aid actually
goes where it is sent! Irish
