Are you planning on seeing the movie? It seesm some religious groups are advising their parishoners to boycott it due to the author's stance on religion. Has anyone read the book series? I'm curious to see how the movie does. It seems to have a great cast and the previews of the special effects I have seen look marvelous.

Must admit, I haven't been to the pictures for over a year. Advertising for this movie has been all over the place lately, and it has piqued my interest somewhat - though whether or not I go to see it has nothing at all to do with the religious proclivities (or lack thereof) of the author.
A person's beliefs are entirely their own, IMO, unless or until they try to "shove them down my throat" so to speak; THEN hear me!!!

National Treasure is next on my must see list but I'm pretty sure I'll get to Golden Compass at least by the time it gets to the discount theater.

IowaMan,
I enjoyed "National Treasure"; well paced, humorous, and it was easy to slip into the storyline. I hope you enjoy it also. :thumb:

I was disappointed with the film, there's an idiot's guide voiced over at the start for those too stupid to work out the plot as we go. It's been very "dumbed down" and removing much of theological issues rip the heart out of the film for me. It's enjoyable enough if you haven't read the books I expect but if you have you'll be sadly disappointed.

Englishlush,
Bummer! This reminds me of what happened when they took the Olympian Gods out of the Iliad when they produced that turkey "Troy".

I'll be seeing it. Any time the religious want to boycott something, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it. ;)
