Do you cook?

Are you good at it? Do you rely on cookbooks? the 'net? What is your specialty? What do you do when you don't know what to cook for dinner? Do you have a bunch of things that you like to cook, and make mostly only those or do you like trying new things?

I love to cook! My mother taught me the basics way back when, and insisted that my sister and I each prepare dinner one night each week. Like Booger, I use recipe books and internet recipes mostly for general reference and usually tweek them a bit according to what ingredients I have, or to subtstitute items I know we don't like.

I also love to eat...so that's another reason I love to cook. lol That's why I learned how to make Chicken Marsala! :slurp:

Though I make a mean General Tso's Chicken too.

i like to cook (usually) and the stuff i make is purty durn tastey (usually :D)

i need recipes for certain things - like cakes - when ratios are important, but other than that, i wing it. like boog, i use the internet and cookbooks as jumping off points. i think my especiality is soup. i lurv soup. i just made some blackeyed pea and ham soup that i could eat every day. then again, people tell me i could charge $ for my banana bread and chocolate chippers (both my own recipes), and my key lime pie with chocolate crust never fails impress (not my recipe). oh, and my crab and artichoke dip (another invention), while heart attack inducing, is always a hit.

I wish I was a worse cook. My ass would be smaller.

I hate to bake because I hate following recipes. Alternately I love reading recipes.

Booger's lasagna is purdy darn yummy! Loulabelle makes a delicious lasagna as well!
I love watching cooking programs and making dishes/meals from them, except with my own twist.
I like to cook, but lately standing for long periods of time plays havock on my pelvis. Mayhem's speciality is yummy fresh salmon.

Cooking isn't my first passion, (you can take a guess what is  ) buy I do it regularly. I memorize most of the recipes. I don't need cookbooks or the net because most all of them are printed on the box. My specialty is coffee. :coffee: I also do very good hard boiled eggs, toast and sometimes even cereal . :D

I use to cook a Silver Surprise when I didn't know what to have, but most good dinners don't come with a foil cover now. I would preheat the oven to 325° F, insert dinner for 22 minutes, roll back the foil and 'SURPISE'...... I had salisbury stake, lasagna, fish, macaroni & cheese........ :bite:

I do eat out on occasion and trying new things, especially if it's is on the sign for this week :car: and whether I need a special game piece. :)

I love cooking!!!! I think I'm good at it (most of the time, anyway). I love reading cookbooks, but I read them like novels, although I do inspire myself from them to cook from. And I really love trying new things!

I like trying new things, but I only occasionally use cookbooks...most of the time I prefer to wing it. I only occasionally have cooking failures. :D

My specialties are: peanut sauce, corn cakes, a baked ham and pumpkin and brie casserole, chicken curry, and a mushrrom chicken dish. But really I like to cook anything - especially if I have free time and it's not a race to finish.

I'm not such a good baker, though...as I am incapable of following directions.

I'm the cook by default in the Zoid household. Whether that's because of my skills or lazyness of the other half if still up in the air.

Last night Mrs Zoid complained bitterly of finding a hair in her round steak & gravy...when I suggested that she could remedy the prob by doing the cooking herself, she told herself to shut up...

Tonight I made this awesome pasta with white wine, goat cheese, mushrooms, spinach, artichokes, and a bit of tomato sauce...garnished with fresh rosemary and ground pepper. It was pretty damn good, if I say so myself. :)

I paired it with some catfish I rolled in cornmeal, lightly fried, and drizzled mustard cream sauce over. Which was also tasty.

Now...If I just hadn't added too much salt to the dill baby carrots, dinner would have been perfect...

My Joe said told me today that he didn't have any desire to go out to eat because he loves my cooking so much. I informed him that since we will be out of the house all day tomorrow and I didn't plan a dinner, he will have to suck it up and make do. :D

I love cooking and I am good at it. I use cookbooks and the net often. My speciality is taking a fattening dish like pizza or chicken Florentine and recreating it to be something delicious and nutritious. For those days I don't have something planned there is always whole wheat tortilla wraps. I just saute up whatever veggies are on hand, scramble in some eggs, toss in some cheese and salsa and roll it up in a warm tortilla. Everyone loves it.

Tonight, I'm making a pizza on a whole wheat pita, with roasted veggies, lean seasoned pork, and blue cheese melted over the top. It's a favorite with my Joe and we'll have a couple of cold ones to go along with it.

Tonight with a little help from the Barefoot Contessa, the internet, and Uncle Ben we are having cod fillets steamed on the grill, or grilled tofu, with a dijon/mayo/horseradish sauce, roasted fresh brussel sprouts, and wild rice.

I haven't decided yet tonight.
I'll take a :car: and see what's on the billboards. Then I'll see if what is in the bag is close to what I shouted into the speaker.

Ah, the joys of the Mystery Meal...trust me, when you shout-order dinner for 4, the chances of a fuckup go up exponentially...

I love to cook but I hate the clean up. It's worse when I want to bake so I haven't baked in a few years.

Sis was here all last week and I wanted to give her a break. I cooked all week. Sunday we had the in-laws and sis and her fiance here for dinner. I made a pork roast and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. As an aside I decided to make navy bean soup with ham hocks as well. If someone didn't like one meal they could have the other. If they liked both they could have both. We pigged out...one and all!

Chicken and dumplings is a specialty of mine for a rib stickin meal. Mr. Lixy and I usually eat light, nutritious meals but sometimes I break loose in the kitchen and go for the gusto!

I love cooking but my success rate is very dependant on what I'm cooking and where. If I'm cooking something I've helped cook first, I usually nail it when I do it on my own. Things from recipes (which I follow religiously (meaning I go with most of it and emit the bits I don't like... sorry couldn't resist)) and things I make up as I go along have about a 70% chance of sucess....

Me and the SO are getting into cooking at the moment, but sadly I can't continue the theme at my place, it being a little busy. I like being a kitchen helper, but if I'm cooking, I prefer to be alone. No-one to watch the calamity :p

I LOVE cooking...most of the time. I'm purty damned good at it too...one of my friends says I've never made anything bad...if she only knew. Kitchen failures happen. My specialty is desserts---baking and such. I make a chocolate mayonaise cake with homemade chocolate buttercream frosting that is TO DIE FOR!

The question is can you bake berry fruit berry pies berry? :bite:

We can make this cooking thing work if you just need somebody to cleanup. :D Your kitchen is going to look a little different but will work REAL well. You can have ANY ingredients and food stuffs to cook. You take the page from Betty Crocker and I'll take a page from Army mess hall manual. EVERYTHING will be stainless steel and granite, with tile walls and a drain in the floor. We can put flowers anywhere you want.:daisy:

You can bake pies, right?
