I will be going to Nashville the first week of December to check out dining and other area informations.
Was in the general vicinity when I finished a run this evening, & had a chance to check out the surroundings...the hotel is just off the Stewart's Ferry/ I-40 exit, & is somewhat remote from any major retail areas in town, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on point of view. BW is in a cluster of other hotels/motels, with the prerequisite Waffle House next door, & a Cracker Barrel restaraunt across the road (anybody who has traveled thru the south will recognize their country-style cuisine & decor ;) ), also a Subway shop & a Mapco chain convenience store...there doesn't seem to be a good deal of variety in the immediate area, but easy enough to access back to the interstate where there are more selections available. I also ended up turning down a side street looking for a turnaround, & found a new-ish very civilised-looking residential neighborhood, which puts my mind to rest about where my friends will be (Nashville is just big enough to have some problematic areas that I wouldn't have my worst enemies spend the night in :yikes: )
All in all, I think SC has probably picked a good one from several hundred miles away...let's give him a big round of applause (or a round of beers, whichever he prefers), shall we...

scotzoidman
12-12-2007, 01:20 AM
Actually set an all-time record today at 73F. But that's not gonna last, if the forecasts are right, eventually that system that's frozen over all you guys in the midwest is supposed to push thru here...this time of year in Nashville can produce some really absurd extremes in weather...
I suspect the reason there was water in the pool when SC was here has something to do with all the rain we've had recently, I suspect they will drain it very soon, unless they plan to let the filter freeze up & make it little more than a "cement pond" for next year...

DB the route is real easy, take I-74 to I-57, take I-57 south to I-24(just south of Marion), take I-24 to Nashville. It was about a 7 hour drive for us that include a stop for lunch and a stop for gas in Ky. You could make it a two day trip if and 8-9 hour drive is to long. Some where I also have the directions to the hotel from the Interstate.

I can fill in the blanks there...I-24 merges with I-65 just after you enter Nashville-Davidson County, continue south (on some of the roughest road you'll ever see in the federal system :P ) as you cross the Silliman Evans Bridge keep left, take I-40 east towards Knoxville, take exit 219 Stewarts Ferry Pike...the hotel is right off the exit.

Not sure what a Fla. cracker drives like, but I'm betting he won't stand out among the local yokels.
Of course, having an out-of-state license plate will buy him a lot of slack here...we're used to touristas wandering blindly on our clusterfucked street system...

I hadn't reckoned with the concept of an Aussie added to the mix, but rest assured...we'll find a good taxi service just for you...
But the "clusterfuck" I referred to is the fact the greater Nashville was once several smaller towns, each with its own layout, & you will find the street name two blocks ago is no longer the name of the same street you're on now, & you don't get any hints as when the change happened. Add many streets that don't connect where you think they might, & you begin to understand why even my GPS is confused...
And then there's the way that, when (or if, if you're a man) you do stop for directions, you'll find that the colorful southern accents not only hard to decipher, but many names are pronounced in a whole 'nother way...

We're going to stop in Indianapolis to see our daughter on the 21st ... then, pop on down to Nashville fairly early on the 22nd. We'll see everyone then.
