The French mime Marcel Marceau died yesterday. He was 84 years old.

His real name was Marcel Mangel. His most famous character was Bip, the white faced clown wearing a striped jumper and a battered silk hat. Supposedly, he was inspired to become a mime by the great actors of the silent era such as Charlie Chaplin & Buster Keaton.

I had the good fortune to see him perform; he was marvelously expressive.

RIP sir.

In Mel Brook's 1976 Silent Movie,Marcel was the only one with a spoken line. A very funny man. He will be missed.

It appears that our Bip was a hero durring WW11. He joined the french resistance against the occupation where he altered ID cards for children so they could avoid deportation.
