Wellington - A burglar spent two hours chatting on sex hotlines after breaking into a house in Hastings, New Zealand, while his 85-year-old victim slept in another room, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The homeowner found her phone, camera and a television set missing when she woke in the morning, but the real shock came weeks later when her telephone bill arrived, including a $138 charge for eight calls to adult chat lines.
The burglar, Whetu Barrett, 30, did the same thing at another house, according to the Dominion Post which reported his appearance in the Hastings District Court on Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to three charges of burglary.
Barrett, who is already serving a three-year prison term for burglary, will be sentenced on the new charges in November.
