I watched the movie last night, and while there are those who will enjoy this slick Hollywood package, I must say that I am not a member of that set.
Why not, Jseal. I read the reviews yesterday from critics and yahoo users. Almost everyone has given it an A rating, except for it seems the die hard lovers of the original Hairspray. I plan on taking my kid to see this next week because we both love musicals and this one looks fun.

TinglingTess,
There’s nothing in the movie that your child should avoid. There was, however, little in the move which engaged me. Perhaps it is a minority report, but “Hairspray” seemed to me to try to be “Grease” for the 21st Century, but it didn’t “pop”.

Just the thought of Travolta doing an Eddie Murphy's enough to prejudice me big time.

I don't know if you're trying to be Devil's Advocate yet again but I think I'll need more from you to convince me (if you can take time from the smut games to embellish your review).
This movie has received more rave reviews than any movie I can remember.

Most people seemed to like it.
Why start a thread about a movie giving it a negative review when you have so little to say?

Jseal doesnt have to convince anyone...he stated he didnt like it...not that you arent going to like it *L*
I've seen a recent movie that people have raved about and, well, found it to be not quite what i expected, disappointing actually.
But hey it takes all kinds to make the world go round

Jseal,
I heard initial reviews that also eluded to a Grease wanna-be. I just saw the play this past spring. I know I have reservations because I just can't picture Travolta doing Divine (and in my mind that is what anyone doing that role is doing)anywhere as well as Divine. If it's campy I'll enjoy it but most likely not til it reaches DVD.
