For anyone that is interested, this post apeared in another thread, this was posted by Oldfart.

"We plan to be in the States 2008 - July 28 - August 3 for EAA's Oshkosh airshow.

Mrs Oldfart was wondering if before Airventure would be better."

Is Mrs Oldfart's idea worth a go? We could hold PAGAN '08 before the airshow.

The week before the OshKosh airshow is July 20 - 26, 2008.

How about a three day period during that week??

This would give peeps a chance to come for one, two or all three days.

Sorry Lou, Newcastle-on-Tyne's probably not in contention this year, nor Norwich.

 Sounds good to us as of now! 20th is a Sunday so something like the 22nd to 24th would still give time for the OF's to get to Oshkosh.

Who knows, we might even try to drive up there after PAGAN 08. Stranger things have happened.

Anyway, a Nashville PAGAN might be fun ... if warm. :)

You can run away from home, but I'm less sure of Lil.

Scarecrow'll tell you that Niagara was very partner friendly in it's best sense.

I have to agree with OF & DB, my wife was aprehensive of the get together. Once she met everyone she had a wonderful time. It is a freindly time to spend with people we have met online and she cannot wait to see them (the ones who can make it) again in Peoria. She was also glad to hear about PAGAN '08.

I'm dying to meet up this August...but I did mention in the other thread about a main blaster quitting. Not too long after that (last week) a "stone humper" (gopher) quit too.

Mr. Lixy is at wits end! He keeps telling me he's gonna die any day now. *sigh* My man has a tough job and nobody to back him!

So anyway...this August seems quite out of the question right now. PAGAN 08 feels better to me!

BTW...doesn't anyone want to see Pennsylvania Dutch country? We have schnitzelbanks and hoagies (OK...that's a Philly thing...but we have em here too) and buggies and lotsa BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Ahem...but this is where I live and I'd LOVE to get together here. Oh...and I live within 50 miles of the bell that made it all possible!!!

OK...OK...it has a flaw (LOL!). But it's still a beautiful sight on inspection. Gave me some MASSIVE goose bumps in it's presence! I just kept thinking of those who viewed it before me through history...the exact same bell...as I was standing in front of it It's a sight to behold!!!!

Did you know that the bell on display isn't the original? Did you know they forged a few and they all cracked? Nothing like pissing off William Penn and Thomas Jefferson...eh?

There's more [bell] info that I didn't even know, but I can't divulge it or I'll have to kill ya if you don't come here!

Love you guys...ya know?.

Pennsylvania Dutch, will we have to learn how to speak it? Things like:

For a fellow he's awful BLAID (bashful) when he gets alone with the girls ...
You should BLEIB (stay) a-while yet; its not late YET.
The BLUTZER (thank you "ma'am" on the road) nearly threw me out of the buggy.
That old woman next door talks all the time like a BOBBAGOY (parrot).
Give me the county-seat BOBBEER (newspaper) -it is just the right size for to cover good the pantry shelf.

Nashville's still good for us...we've been to a "get together" for another board there before. I was pregnant with son #1 at the time, but we still did the zoo, and some stuff in downtown Nashville--And July of '08 sounds good cuz I WON'T be preggers at the time!

Ok, ok...got here as soon as I could...

Not sure I could be as useful as db was in arranging for discount accommodations, but I'll do what I can. This came up in chat some time back, when Nashville was first being mentioned. At the time, I suggested a halfway decent Red Roof near my place, just off I-65 & not too bad an area, except for it's right across the street from the main CSX switching yard...I don't know if that's a good place to be unless you're used to the sound of lots of trains, as I am (I did put my half-sister up there, & she didn't voice any complaints, & she isn't the type to hold back if she's not happy with things). The big obstacle to finding places here is that Nashville is very much a tourist industry town, any place nice enough to put up my friends is likely to be a tad pricey, & I understand how that can be a real factor. That, along with the fact that I don't do a lot of hotel shopping in my own hometown, means I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to send everybody. I can assure you that there are a lot of places to stay here, maybe too many choices...Nashville has an unusual neighborhood geography, & one can go just a few blocks in any given direction & go from a "good" area to a "bad" one very quickly. I guess it may come down to what the visiting parties may want to do when they get here beyond the "meet all the Pixies" event...if anyone really cares about the Opry and/or country music venues (I certainly don't!) we might put people around the Music Row area or east side near the Opryland hotel, but that could be tricky too...

I'm on the south side of town myself, maybe just south of the city limits in Brentwood might be an idea...but there, like so many other areas in this town, traffic sucks

Let me keep working on it...

Thanks for the input Scotz, things to look for in a location would be easy to get to(from interstates and airport), parking for those driving and a good part of town. Since the hotels will not even except reservetion more than 12 months in advance there is no real big rush to nail down the exact hotel yet. Again thanks for any help with this.

Barring any disasters or last minute crap uprisings, I'm totally down with this. Or I should say that it's doable and I just have to make sure that I'm equally as doable! I'll give a definite when next year swings around but for now, pencil me in between that and the "maybe" option!

That was my thinking exactly, SC...I just wanted everyone to understand how tricky finding the right combo of those needs could be in this town...then again, it may be that I've lived here so long I know this place *too* well, & I may be seeing warts where no one else would notice.

I was looking at The Country Inn & Suites by Carlson by the airport. But I don't think they have a pool. They quote $89 for their least expensive room.
Hotel pools may be a vanishing thing, from what I can tell...Lots of places by the airport, & maybe the one of the better parts of town because of it...at this time, traffic is bad there because of a major construction project of Briley Pkwy., which doesn't seem to be coming to an end anytime soon...who knows, maybe next year it will be better...

Haven't been able to check out Country Inn & Suites up close & personal yet, but I've been thinking that any place near the airport should be pretty decent, & may well be the best option, considering that I figure at least one aussie might be flying in for PAGAN '08...the only potential downside is I believe CI&S may be right in the heart of a major constuction project ongoing with Briley Pkwy, but maybe they'll be clearing that up by this time next year, keep your fingers crossed...

Ok...Sorry guys but i am a planner and I am trying to plan for this trip next year...need more information....

Dates: Exact dates if possible

The hotel: Any one in particular? I am looking for one with a pool but come across an indoor or outdoor option, also hotel rating, and price range that we are going for.

I also have a co worker that still gets deals from a hotel chain that he can book everything and get his discount ( if i need to ask if he can I will, since he has offered anyway) I believe it is the clariton ones. I will have to check that.

any other info possible too...

txgrneyes, the dates are July 22, 23 & 24. Check-in on the 22nd & check-out on the 25th. Everyone is welcome for 1, 2 or all 3 nights. It will be in Nashville, Tn. I am looking at Hotels near the airport. The main one I am looking at is a Best Western that has recently been remodeled and it has Hi speed Internet and an outdoor pool. The standard rate is $66 a night. I have yet to contact the chain or hotel but on the web-site it says there is a discount for 5+ rooms and a larger discount for 10+ rooms. It looks like we will have 10+ rooms. This hotel is rated 3Diamonds by AAA. After I set it up with the hotel everyone will be able to book there own room and this chain has a 24hr cancilation refund policy. If anyone else is seeking info please let me know on this thread or by PM.

I'd like to see a large goupe at PAGAN '08. If you have any questions about meeting with other Pixies please contact anyone who was at PAGAN '06 or PIP '07. They will tell you what a good time was had by all.

After reviewing the pics of PIP07 and PIN 06 I have a question?
DO I have to shave my head to attend Nashville in 08 so I will fit in?

YES :cboy:

It's the expected thing to do. That was the only reason I shave mine each year.

Like DB, I'd love to be only 1 week out.

OK...does anyone have an '08 calender so I can "pencil in" the dates?

Oh...and could you call me about 2 months ahead to remind me to flip the pages on said calender?

My mother-in-law calls me on occasion to ask what months my calenders are showing...lmfao!

This one is SO close to us!! We're only in Chattanooga--well, right over the line in Ringgold, GA so it's only a couple of hours drive for us. I keep telling MR SD that we are SO going to PAGAN '08!

txgrneyes, the dates are July 22, 23 & 24. I have yet to contact the chain or hotel but on the web-site it says there is a discount for 5+ rooms and a larger discount for 10+ rooms. http://www.freewebby.com/action-smilies/typer.gifSC, looking at the Best Westerns here, is that the Airport Inn or the one near Opryland?

Good choice. Stewart's Ferry Pk is a reasonably decent neighborhood & close enough to the airport for those who might fly in. What they won't tell you on the website is that the Opryland hotel, while it's a nice one, is only accessable via Briley Pkwy...which is an awful mess right now, has been a mess for several years already, & I can almost guarantee will probably still be a mess 11 months from now...

I should probably go on record now with saying that while I'm proud that Pixie's has chosen my hometown for the next get-together, & I'm looking forward to meeting the faces behind the silly-sexy screen names, for a number of personnal reasons, I can't be the gracious host-with-the-most in arranging for all the activities the way I understand DB did with the Peoria meet. I will help this along as best I can, & hope that what I can do is enough to make everybody feel welcome & relaxed. Of course, from what I understand, mostly it's pixies meet, pixie greet, goodgawd let's eat...

Shit, I can do that... ;)

If you're ready to go right now, I suggest you stop off at your fav garage & have the A/C checked first...

<12 days in August 100F or greater
<21 days " " 90F " "

Right now, I wouldn't invite my worst enemy down for a visit...

No, but I've got a dog that can retrieve it for ya...

All seriousness aside, I'm hoping that current conditions are a one-off (we've broken 100-yr-old records here) & that next year should be more moderate...which is not to say that it would ever be really pleasant here in July, just normally it's not life-threatening...but if this drought+heat continues for much longer, I'm gonna have a lot more pressing issues than whether I get to meet n greet with my online friends (we are trying to start a little nursery business here, & crop failure has become my state's #1 problem)...

Hey, maybe some naked raindancing will work...

Same here, except they started back last week...all school bldgs have A/C, most of them working, but something about the cost of about a zillion $$$ to do the same to the buses has them sending them home before the afternoon triple digits set in...

Ok, so I'm late to the game........or um...plans....

I'm reading thru all this to see what the dates are. I think it'd be great fun to meet everyone!
