Does eating certain foods bring back memories for you?

I just got some cucumber ready here and I sprinkled salt on it, and it reminded me of when I was little at my grandparents' house, because I wasn't allowed salt on my cucumber at home but Grand-mère let me sneak some on at her house.

Hot house tomatoes remind me of being little at my grandparents' too.

I used to eat tomatoes right off the vine. My grandparents had a few fruit trees on their lawn and we'd climb the trees to eat mulberry, apples, pears and cherries. So I've planted an orchard of my own.........

Great thread idea Neige!!! :thumb:

Pork chops. When I make them in a skillet and pour cream of celery soup over them and use it as gravy on mashed potatoes. Reminds me of my mom.

Butterscotch disks remind me of being at my grandmas house.

Tombstone frozen pizzas remind me of the fishing trips we took with our grandpa to Minnesota when I was a kid.

Fish of any kind, reminds me of my father. That may be why I do not eat it to this day.

I'm sure there are more that I'll eventually come up with. :p

Fresh asparagus reminds me of my grandfather, Pop.

Pop would take us on a 'tour' of his huge garden when we visited. He carried a little pocketknife and would use it to cut each of us a tender young shoot of asparagus to eat. MMMM.... that was good.

blackberries remind me of being up north with one set of grandparents.

M&M's and raisins remind me of my other grandmother who bought them for me as a treat when I was a child, and I wanted raisins instead. She told THAT story to EVERY girl I dated.........and some I didn't.

Let's see. Tastes and smell of a non-pheromone memory.

Tangerines! :) The sent of a tangerine is as much Christmas to me as the sent of pine in the house. Now I go around squeezing just the peel in the air at my grandchildren's home during the holidays, in hopes they may someday have the same fond association.

There is a special French ham sandwich ('jambon') that I'd LOVE to taste again. :)

Like IowaMan, I'm sure there are many more that will spring to mind.

Poutine reminds me of the tavern where we'd go eat lunch when I was a senior in high school. We'd watch The Price is Right while we ate.

A few more from me:

anytime I have cranberries I think of spending time in my grandparent's summer place in Hayward, Wisconsin when I was four or five.

there are a kind of homemade sweet pickle that are very bright green that remind me of going to my aunt's house. Never did get the recipe for those and oh how I'd love to have a few of those right now.

Hi C Orange drink reminds me of the nights I would stay with my best friend when we were little kids and his mom wouldn't let us have soda.

The smell of roast dinners reminds me of Grandma - she loved to cook those.

Also an old dish we have in the North West called Potato Pie - the smell of which just takes me back to childhood and happy times...

Fresh Golden Delicious apples from the tree in our backyard...the one I could actually climb & sit in, because of the low branches...

The ones I get from Kroger now are sweet & crunchy, but just don't quite have that same feeling I got from picking my own on a hot summer day...
