I just answered the door to a salesman who asked if my parents were in!!!!!!!!!!

For f**k sake I'm 29 this year and I had my son in my arms at the time - I've owned my own house for the last 7 years!!!!

I'm not sure whether to be flattered or whether the salesman wants his head read!

I have to be honest...I'd love to have you read my head. ;)

That reminds me of the story told to me by a man on retreat. Once he turned 50, he told his wife he was going to start asking for a senior discount everywhere he went. Everybody looked at him and laughed.

One day he got it.

It wasn't funny anymore.

Actually one of the oldest ploys in a salesman's arsenel...apparently it stills works often enough to keep using it...

In some cases, flattery will get you vacuum cleaner.

Does that mean that you'd get "sucked" before he leaves?

(((((Lou))))))

I get it too. Pisses me off that I make 5x what my mom makes, but the salespeople fawn over her and ignore me.

But I have youth and beauty to console me :D

It's true...it's a sales ploy Lou. That's not to say you don't look youthful (you most certaintly do) but that it's their schmoozy/smarmy way of endearing themselves to you for a sale.

I've always felt that the more schmooze slung, the crappier the product.

What was he selling anyway Lou? And, did he schmooze you enough to buy?

That's just the thing - my first thought was sales schmooz, but the guy had no patter whatsoever - he struggled to string a sentence together and was trying to get me to switch electricty supplier, I think, but he was so vague, I'm not entirely sure.

To be honest, rather than coming off charming or even smarmy he just came off as thick as s**t!

I guess what they say is true, "There's no cure for being stupid." I wouldn't worry about it too much Lou, it's his sale he loses out on.

I will trade you though. I turned 39 a few months back and will never be mistaken, even jokingly, for being a youngster. Not with my bald dome and all the white hair in my goatee. :(

(((Lou)))

Just sort of wanted to steal a hug from the lady of the house. :p

Evidently a newbie...he was prob just reading the cue cards in his head, then he dropped them & got them out of order...poor bastard, I hate to see people who just aren't cut out for their line of work...
