Anybody else into racing ? Areyou watching the shootout tonight ?

I'm not as big of a fan as I used to be. It just hasn't been the same for me since Dale got killed. I guess the only races I absolutely can't miss anymore are the Daytona 500, Firecracker 400 (or whatever sponsor does the July 4 race now), Brickyard and the night race at Bristol at the end of August. I would absolutely love to take a car out onto that track in Bristol.

When I do watch, I'm pulling for Dale Jr.

I do have the shootout on the tube right now though. I try to watch that every season as well as the twin qualifying races.

I'm so excited that NASCAR is back. I bleed orange and have always been a die-hard Tony Stewart fan. I also pull for Kurt Busch. :) I'm glad the shootout is on tonight and Daytona next week is gonna be great!

Pretty good race to get things started. At least there wasn't the "really" big one that we usually get there or Talladega.

There's too few cars on the track during the Shootout for the big one to be a factor. I think the crash tonight was the big one of the Shootout.

IowaMan
02-10-2007, 10:16 PM
That's true. I'm sure we'll probably get it in the 500. :(

Well, at least it was an exciting finish I guess. Of all 43 cars in the race, the 29 is the last one I wanted to win the thing. Can't stand Kevin Harvick. And to think he won the thing on the anniversary of Dale's death about makes me want to get sick.

After Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart were eliminated from contention I was really hoping that Mark Martin could pull it out. Now that he drives a Chevy I can root for him. ;)

Really hoping that before all is said and done though that Kenny Schrader can pick up a win someplace.

OMG, I can't stand Harvick.

I wouldn't necessarily say the 29 was the last one I wanted to win the race..that honor belongs to the 48 (wrecked by his own teammate..lol). I've been a Mark Martin fan since he was driving the Folgers car. The 29 win was ok, I was glad to see RCR win another 500, but damn I'm disappointed that Mark lost by .02 seconds :(

I was really cheering for Mark to pull out with a win after my boys took each other out. I did cheer when the 48 wrecked :) Can't fricken stand ol JJ. That commercial today with him and Sadler pretty much sums up Johnson.

I also was glad to see Bowyer climb out of the 07 after sliding across on his roof. Had me concerned. But it was a good race all in all.

Eros

Yeah...when I saw the front end of the 07 on fire, I think I held my breath till I saw Clint climbing out the window.

FallenAngel5
02-19-2007, 12:22 AM
Oh, I was the same way... as soon as the camera cut to it on its roof, I had an oh shit moment that didn't end til the window net was down and he was wriggling out.

Oh, and the Sadler/Johnson Sprint commercial did pretty much sum up Johnson. I liked the Alltel commercial when Newman was calling everybody to tell them the race was off..lol.

Aw I missed that one! I also liked the new Young Guns one. The old Newman! one was pretty funny, but this one was too.

Thought I might add this close encounter in this thread...

Last night, while making a delivery to a truck stop/service garage on the western outskirts of town, I was passed by one tractor/trailer that stood out...couldn't tell the business name, but I couldn't miss the truck, chrome-laden & enough running lights to be seen from outer space ;) All I could make out was a Target logo on the back, but it seemed a little extravegant to be hauling pallets of store merchandise...when it got about 100 ft ahead me, I was startled by the sound of an explosion, very loud it was...next thing I & everybody else around me are playing dodge-'em with huge chunks of steel-reinforced rubber...luckily, no damage to me or anyone else that could tell, but it got my heart a-pounding pretty good...the truck finally gets his speed down, & pulls over to the shoulder about a mile down the road, & I continue to my destination.
After dropping off a #50 truck part at the repair shop, I go back to my minivan, & in the parking lot behind me is that truck again...& now I see why it was so gussied up...it was the car hauler for the #41 Target Reed Sorenson car, obviously on its way from the shop in NC heading to the California Race this week...but I think he was gonna be delayed a little until he got that tire fixed ;)
BTW, just as i got there, my dispatcher called me to say the customer wanted me to go back & get another part they needed, they didn't realize I was already in their parking lot...I declined to make the 2nd trip, it was late & I was still a little shakey from the near-disaster with the truck...

What are Jaun Pablos chances of winning today ?

IowaMan
03-04-2007, 09:08 AM
It wouldn't surprise me terribly if he won today really. Actually, I sort of expect him to win a couple on the Nextel Cup circuit before the season is done. The guy is just too good of a driver to get shut out. Probably a lot of DNF's and maybe some bad finishes from taking chances he shouldn't but I do believe he'll win a couple.

Turned out his chances were pretty good, esp. since he didn't mind taking a teammate out...

Actually, when I saw the wreck happen, I thought he could have been a little more patient, but since he only narrowly avoided wrecking himself, the bottom line is it was just racing...

& Pruitt will have to get over it, he would have done the same if the shoe were on the other foot...

Pruitt needs to quit whinning.

He cut Montoya off in the corner, leaving him nowhere to go but into Pruitt.

you're right Scotz, he'd do the same thing if roles were reversed.

My bet he starts out with Gibbs or(then) RCR for the chance to race the 3 again in his dad's memory what's all your opinions

IowaMan
05-14-2007, 09:00 PM
I'm a big fan of Junior but I'm just not ready for the 3 car to be raced again. Not by Junior or anybody else. That was Dale's car and that's how I want to remember it. I'm sure it would be a remarkable tribute, especially if Junior were to win in it but it's going to be quite some time before I'm ready to see it out there on the track again.

Not sure if Gibbs will go for the Budweiser sponsorship.

Well he won't be able to run the 8 unless he pulls a deal like MW did with the 55 and even though I'm not a big fan of Dale or Jr maybe 15 years from now it would be neat maybe as a retirement tour for Jr to run the black 3 (Idea borrowed from DW) .... Actually Dale was the guy I loved to hate
