We went to a controlled release this afternoon of a couple of dozen flatback turtles into the wild.
Eggs are rescued from nests, allowed to hatch in safety and released by our Conservation Commission. The release itself is a time of joy for the kids.
It was not as miserable as it looked, about 25C just before sunset.

Oh, Yay! Happy, happy, joy, joy! *dances*
Yeah, my favorite part of being a wildlife rehabilitator is releasing the animals back into the wild after they're healthy again.
Glad you were participating in this program, OF.

Did they look like little wind-up toys as they were making their way to the water? That's how it always looks to me when I see the mad dash on the nature shows...it must be a real treat to see it in person.

"Come, Little Turtle," sang the Sea.
"Come, Little Turtle, come home to me."

I'm just a supporter, not a doer in this case, but it is amazing.
They do look so much like kids toys.
I tooks a movie with my still camera (quicktime format) which is almost 9meg, otherwise I'd post it.

My little guy got to help a lady scientist a couple summers ago count eggs in nests on the beach. He was just there and nosey and she invited him to join her. Helped him to be so much more aware of the difficulties animals face due to encroachment.
Way cool pics Mr.

That's some cool beans, Mr. Oldfart.
And I'm also remembering it's "summer" where you are now as opposed to my location, so I'm quite jealous of that beachside access.
