This past summer I was able to snag a reasonably current, 16", world globe from eBay at a good price. New, these start around $200-$300 on sale. :yikes: It replaced an old 12", floor model that my kids grew up with as just part of the family room furniture. Thirty years later, it's a standing joke about "well look it up", when a place in the news or just a distant location came up. So after all the remarks about abusive childhoods were made, each spent about 1/2 an hour, comparing it to the one they knew so well and asked what I was going to do with the old one with comments like "it my turn to torturer my kids" .
I've spent the last few months hawking eBay and have been luck to snatch a couple more for well under $100 each. (Guess what the family Christmas presents are going to be? ;) )
A small (2 HP or less) air compressor is another item that I can not conceive of being without. I've made mention before about being the neighborhood filling station of everything from large pool toys and bicycle tires, to running small pneumatic tools. It seems everybody doesn't share my view of 'basic necessities', (even though they like to share my compressor).
This got me to wondering what Pixies might consider long term indispensables that not every neighbor may have (but sure likes yours ;) ).

I just wanted to say I'm a map geek, but never had a globe. Maybe I should get one!

I got the huge color assortment of Flairs and have like 3 colors left. Peeps steal them!
I'm also a post it note addict.
My Joe is a post-it note addict. In fact that is one of the first gifts he sent me. I mentioned that I didn't have any and the next thing I knew I had a whole box of them. Now I don't know how I would manage my life without them. I have the big ones, the little ones, and those book marker ones that are terrific for my text books!. :D

About the only thing I can think of is that I own a lot of really nice silk neckties that I'm always getting complimented on and being asked to borrow.
Also like to add, and a I'm pretty sure PF would agree, that it seems as though Osuche has a luscious collection of thongs upon which many of us here place quite a sizeable value.

That's what I do with music trivia...& it's amazing how many people have called me up out of the blue to play music perfesser, wanting to know who did that song back in the 60's...
But in terms of what I find indespensible, I seem to have a collection of almanacs, all well thumbed in the section of "Noted Personalities"...hmmm, just noticed the most recent is dated 1991, may be time to update that too...
I find a sense of humor indispensable. :)

Mae, Mae, Mae.
Surely humour is meant to be dispensed, as often as possible.

I don't know why...because time escapes me so often...but I have at least 1 clock in every room of my house. I also "collect" unusual/unconventional time pieces (sundials, hourglasses, time-span clocks, etc.) and they are dispersed throughout the house as well. If one clock breaks down I replace it immediately. Then you got that new clock of yours PF...and I coveted it for weeks! LOL!
And even though I suck at it, I keep an old guitar around for when I get the notion to strum. I haven't been without a guitar in my home since I was 13 y/o (the year I got my very first). The one and only that I have now (I sold my Ibanez when I moved to Fla. a while back) is an ole no-name accoustic that Mr. Lixy pulled from the trash years ago, before we met. It needs some shiny new strings but has a pretty nice sound for a piece of trash!
Oh...and PF? So that's the globe that would have brought you out my way, eh? You shoulda had it (along with the others) sent to my house and picked it up from here! That would have saved you enough postage to justify the gas consumption!

I guess I'm another map person. I love maps and have found that you can get "free" road maps from many states by contacting their Transportation Departments or their Departments of Tourism. Needless to say, I've taken advantage of those kind offers.

Whenever I drive or go somewhere out of town, I always get maps along the way but I also get tourist info too. I grab lots of pamplets and local or state tourist books, especially at the visitors centers. Never know when I might be back in that area or state. I had to start a file for them cause I have so many.
That's my *Indispensable*.

You just need a compass too. You kept making that last dumb turn north.:banghead:
Start building that addition, Boog! I've seen her collecting. :faint:

I guess I should blame PF for this, but I find my GPS unit indespensible now if I drive more than 20 miles from home...
