The iPod is five years old (http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2001/oct/23ipod.html) this weekend.
About 68 million iPods have been sold so far. MP3 files and their players have had interesting effect on the way people enjoy their music.

...and the way they'll enjoy it (or not) in the future, thanks to proprietary lock-in, DRM, etc.
At least these days, Microsoft makes a token effort at opening standards and interoperating.
The iPod. Form over function yet again.

I must say, I absolutely adore my iPod. I was looking a home setup for it just today... how I'd love the bose speaker set.

Lovely just to play and listen, but horrid things to re-load.

I still need to get my own for my new shop! I want to put all relaxing music on it for my clients to enjoy.

Gentlefolk,
If this plays out the way Mr Johansen expects, we could be in for a price drop (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6083110.stm).
