(((AngelicVampires))) Sorry to hear about your kitty :(
Dicksbro, how awful :(
The two last posts made me sad, as did some of the latest PostSecret (http://postsecret.blogspot.com/) entries.
Thank you, FWM. The visitation was yesterday. They planned for it to last from 2PM until 7PM with a short service afterwards. People started showing up at 10AM and it didn't stop until about 7:30PM last night. Then the service to a packed church. Our pastor had been Irish and his family were very uplifting as they remembered our pastor (and their loved one). A sad ... but somehow joyful service as we believe he's in a wonderful place now with none of the trials of this life. The funeral service will be later this morning and, again, it's expected that the church will be filled to capacity with an overflow into our parish hall where closed circuit TV will allow them to witness and be a part of the service.

Mr C's gone.
According to the Oz ABC News site:-
Tom Bosley, one of the stars of the long-running 1970s television series Happy Days, has died of heart failure aged 83.
For 11 seasons, Bosley played long-suffering, gravel-voiced father Howard Cunningham.
He was the perfect foil for the show's eternally cool Arthur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli, played by Henry Winkler, and Cunningham's less hip son Richie, played by Ron Howard.
Bosley earned an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in 1978.
He went on to star in Murder She Wrote and The Father Dowling Mysteries.
Agent Sheryl Abrams says Bosley had been battling lung cancer and died of heart failure in hospital near his Palm Springs home.
Winkler has paid tribute to Bosley, saying he was his mentor.
"I'm in shock, I really am," Winkler told Los Angeles' KNX-1070 News Radio.
"I spoke to him just a few weeks ago and he seemed to be getting his strength back.
"We really were a family. Tom was not only the TV father, he was also one of the dads on the set," he added.
Scott Baio, who played Fonzie's cousin Chachi, paid tribute to Bosley on his Twitter page.
"Mr Tom Bosley will be missed by many," Baio wrote.
"He was a great actor, teacher and man."

From the Oz ABC News,
Amazon under fire over paedophile manual
Anger: The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure is on sale on Amazon (www.amazon.com)
Online retail giant Amazon is under fire for selling a self-published digital book called The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure.
The reviews' page for the book, by Phillip R Greaves and available for Amazon's Kindle electronic reader, was deluged with criticism after the Seattle-based company offered it for sale.
"This is a joke, right? What reputable business would even consider allowing this book to be sold from their website?" said a visitor identified as "Emerald Storm."
"This is absolutely despicable."
"Shame on Amazon for allowing such garbage to be sold on its site," said another with the handle "thirty something."
The book, whose full title is "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover's Code of Conduct," had received more than 305 "reviews", with 297 giving it a one-star rating, the lowest possible.
Most of the "reviews" were appeals to Amazon to remove the book.
"Amazon, you might want to consider taking this horrid book off your website if you want to have any business this holiday season," wrote "ecirtap."
"Shame on you, Amazon, for allowing a book like this to be uploaded for purchase! This book gives advice to people about something that is ILLEGAL in every state in this nation. It needs to be removed from the site immediately," wrote another customer.
In a statement distributed to TechCrunch and other technology blogs, Amazon said it "believes it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable.
"Amazon does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts, however, we do support the right of every individual to make their own purchasing decisions," it said.
In a product description to sell the book, the author frames it as an attempt "to make paedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certain rules for these adults to follow.
"I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of paedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter [sic] sentences should they ever be caught," Greaves said.
We aren't allowed to beat these people to death, I have been reliably informed.

But Amazon later withdrew the book from its online store after a campaign against it spread on Twitter, Facebook and other media.
Commenting online, some people had said they planned to boycott the online store in protest.
The book title appeared on the company's website yesterday but a subsequent message read: "We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site".
There was no immediate comment from Amazon.

British author jailed in Singapore
ABC News.
A Singapore court jailed a 75-year-old British author for six weeks for publishing a book critical of executions in the city-state.
Alan Shadrake was handed the prison sentence and a fine of 20,000 Singapore dollars ($15,000) for contempt of court over the book, which features an interview with a former chief executioner.
High Court Judge Quentin Loh dismissed a last-minute apology by Shadrake as "nothing more than a tactical ploy in court to obtain a reduced sentence" and ruled that the freelance journalist will have to serve two extra weeks in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
"A fine should be imposed to prevent Mr Shadrake from profiting from his contempt (of court)," the judge said.
The ruling said the sentence was the stiffest ever imposed for contempt of court in Singapore. The previous longest jail term was 15 days.
Shadrake, who lives in Malaysia and Britain, was arrested by Singapore police in July after launching the book Once a Jolly Hangman: Singapore Justice in the Dock.
It includes a profile of Darshan Singh, the former chief executioner at Singapore's Changi Prison who, according to the author, executed about 1,000 men and women from 1959 until he retired in 2006.
It also features interviews with human rights activists, lawyers and former police officers on cases involving capital punishment.
In a November 3 ruling that found Shadrake guilty, the judge said: "Mr Shadrake's technique is to make or insinuate his claims against a dissembling and selective background of truths and half-truths, and sometimes outright falsehoods.
"A casual and unwary reader, who does not subject the book to detailed scrutiny, might well believe his claims... and in so doing would have lost confidence in the administration of justice in Singapore."

Some of the people who are reporting Science stories, yet lack the science knowledge to understand the story.
A current story goes thusly:-
Baby coral can clone, researchers say
By Natalie Poyhonen
Updated March 02, 2012 09:35:31
During the experiments, about half of the fertilised coral eggs broke into smaller fragments.
Marine scientists in north Queensland have discovered baby coral on the Great Barrier Reef can clone itself before developing into adult coral.
The team from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) in Townsville set out to research what happens to fragile coral embryos when they fragment during different wave conditions.
Unlike most animal embryos, the coral does not have a protective outer layer.
Dr Andrew Negri says during the experiments, which mimicked wave heights during coral spawning, about half of the fertilised coral eggs broke into smaller fragments.
"If there are choppy conditions in the ocean, this would be enough to break the coral embryos apart and create smaller coral clones," he said.
Dr Negri says it is just one of the strategies used to reproduce and could help its long-term survival.
"By having such fragile embryos maybe this increases the number of larvae that are available to settle," he said.
"But it could be that producing a different size range or wider size range of different embryos and larvae may help them as well - may help them to get into smaller nooks and crannies and settle and attach and avoid predators."
Hereby endeth the story.
What has not been understood by the reporter is that corals, like their cousins the jellyfish and the hydras are not animals, but colonies of closely related beasties. If the fragment contains enough of all the types of beasties, it can grow into a complete polyp.
Lord save us from hemi-comprehension.

I had to bust my ass at work for some big wigs that are coming through this week, so they made us work 5 days at 8 hours instead of 4 days at 10 hours so I lost a day off.
I got a rejection letter from a possible job that would have paid me a hell of a lot more money after waiting almost a month for some word from them. (The letter was written on the 29th and delivered on the 2nd).
I've felt like shit for two days straight and it's from a combination of allergies and possibly a cold.
Because my cousin is moving out there is a huge mess in the downstairs and he's been up very late for a few days in a row making it hard for me to sleep.
And this morning my ranchero decided she no longer wanted to start.

A call from one of my dearest friend's daughter. My friend has been sick for 2 years, and recent surgery hasn't help. She's going to come take her to her house for awhile to take care of her and see a new specialist. She asked me to pick her up at the airport.

Not so much sad, but I guess close enough for this thread:
Early this a.m. I was called out for a courier run that's not unusual for me, p/u a prescription at one of our Great Ubiquitous Corner Drugstores, & deliver to a nursing home out of town. Mind you, even a short walk thru any nursing home is kinda sad in of itself, but I've learned to not let it get to me (much). First, at the pick up point, I have a message on the blackberry giving the patient's name & date of birth; these DOB's have been getting too close for comfort for some time, but this one read xx/xx/54 - 2 yrs older than me, & for the math challenged, that's a 58 yr old...in a nursing home. Scary, disturbing, & sad all at once.
Getting to the home just ahead of the emergency squad & seeing a patient curled up like dead bug with his legs in the air wasn't a happy visual either.

Oldfart
01-30-2013, 06:00 PM
A badly damaged minesweeper that has been stranded on a World Heritage-listed coral reef in the Philippines for nearly two weeks may need to be dismantled before it is removed.
The US Navy says the drastic measure of pulling apart the 68-metre USS Guardian has been proposed in a salvage plan to Philippine authorities.
"This was determined to be the best option and would involve the least damage to the Tubbataha Reef," navy spokesman Lieutenant Commander James Stockman said in a statement.
The Guardian became grounded on the Tubbataha Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in a remote part of the Sulu Sea, on January 17.
The US Navy has previously said the boat, which has a wood and fibreglass hull, was too badly damaged to be towed away.
But it had not come up with a firm alternative plan as to how the vessel could be moved off the reef.
Thousands of litres of oil on board the Guardian have been removed but the vessel is being battered by huge waves.
Angelique Songco, the superintendent of the Tubbataha marine park, says that is causing it to gouge a destructive trail along the reef.
She says dismantling the ship will further damage the reef but letting it remain there longer will lead to even more harm.
"It will cause more damage the longer it is left there," she said.
The head of the Philippine office of the World Wildlife Fund, Jose Maria Lorenzo Tan, agrees the ship should be dismantled if there is no other way to shift it off the reef.
"If this is the only option, then the sooner they can remove it, the better. They cannot risk that the ship simply breaks apart," he said.
The US Navy has repeatedly apologised for the incident but has refused to explain publicly why the Guardian was sailing so close to the reef.
This has fuelled anger over the incident in the Philippines, a former American colony and important US ally in the Asia-Pacific region.
Vessels sailing into the marine park need permission, but Philippine authorities said the crew of the Guardian had made no request to enter and had even ignored radio messages from government rangers that it was about to hit the reef.

Finding out that my very good friend's spot on the lung is cancerous along with other spots on his liver and other organs. Lot's of prayers and good wishes are needed. He's a terrific guy with a really great family!

Thanks, OF! Your support means a lot.
This has really shaken me. Times when we've really needed somebody to be there for us ... he has been. Now, I only wish there was more that I could do. :(
