I saw the headline earlier & immediately thought the mother was in the wrong (being an adoptee myself) but reading the full story changed my mind.

Will the un-adoption do more harm than good? Parental love can be a strong motivating force.

These are the kinds of cases that make you really think about the whole concept of child care in our society.

yup^^
it’s surely not helping this kid to know that someone else wants to get rid of him. if she were truly committed, she’d have tried to find a way him help and keep the other children safe without un-adopting him. and if the state was truly committed, they’d have helped her.

"You don't want to throw somebody away," said Helen Briggs, a longtime foster mother. "But sometimes you have to."

that statement, about a 15 year old ferchristsake, makes me want to slap her, no matter how many awards she’s won for foster work. what a crappy thing to say.

Mixed feelings here... but one thing is for sure, I agree with wyndhy about how crappy it was to make that statement about throwing somebody away.

I'm sure that will do wonders toward helping this kids attitude. /sarcasm

Whether the child is adopted or not, if a parent is unable to cope then in the interest of all the State should have some remedy.

The other children in her home have a right to be safe. He has a right to have a home. Sometimes they can not be the same.

Speaking of adoptees...I also am adopted. I have been trying to get a copy of my original birth certificate, but have been thwarted/rejected/discouraged by just about every legal means possible. California is such a "tight" state. Dadblastit!

Oz used to be difficult, but now there are groups like "Jigsaw" who help people find their roots.
