Mike Douglas' passing?

He was a very early positive memory for me.

His passing does make one long for the days when talk shows were a kinder, gentler form of entertainment...& he just happened to pass on his 81st birthday...
Circa 1971-72, he had John Lennon & Yoko Ono as his guests for the week, that must have been a trip to watch the self-professed ultimate square chatting with the notorious radicals that they were at that time...one account I read had them complaining that they thought their phone was being tapped, they heard strange clicks & so forth...Mike just nodded, obviously thinking these two were just being paranoid...later it turned out they really were having every movement & conversation monitored by the FBI, & there was a secretive effort mounted by the Nixon White House to kick him out of the country...just shows what I've always said, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean everybody isn't out to get you....

I had read about it the other night and I do remember him when I was very young. I remember him being nice looking and kind.

Many memories of coming home from school and watching him and/or Merv with Mom (and Dinah Shore too...but let's not get carried away, huh?)

Anyway...he is a part of my (happier) past and I didn't hear of his passing till about 9:30am this morning...in work...on a radio talk show. Brought back lotsa memories and I actually shed a tear and it was for the memories of Mom as we watched Mike.

R.I.P. Mr. Douglas. TY for the memories!

My mom used to watch him every day. She loved his act.
