View Full Version : Guess who's coming to dinner?

Mrs Oldfart and I are coming visiting in August.
After a week's pilgrimage at the holy place, Oshkosh, we will drop in on a lady in Florida.
A prominent senior Pixie threatened me with knee-capping if we didn't pop in to the other end of the country, so we will be at Niagara on Saturday 12th August hoping to catch up with PF and whoever wants to come across for a coffee or a beer.
There have been attempts to get Pixies together in the past, notably the mid-Western get-together a few years ago. Instead, this will be a low-key getting together with people who I have known for the best part of five years .
I take the opportunity of my 5000th post to extend the invitation to those who wish to join us. Flights and hotel have been booked, so the ball's in your courts.

Somewhere between the Fla panhandle & Niagara, if you happen to find yourself switching planes near a certain city (you'll hear the music), give me a shout...I'm sure I can scare up some butterscotch schnappes just to ease the journey...

I am not sure where I'll be at that time, but if I am in Montreal, it would be quite close for me to go. Are you going to be on the American or the Canadian side of the Falls? I've only ever been on the Canadian side...

Alasse,
Just stay out of my boogie board bag.
Sprite, we'll be on the US side, but may hop over the border on Friday if it's do-able, just to get the stamp in the passport.
Steph

Are you going to be on the American or the Canadian side of the Falls?
Canuckian.
If you can get a bus to Union Station, we can set you up! Pixies Party in Niagara Falls (PPIN) with a quick cruise through Toronto.

Mr. Lixy and I are going to try to be there OF! It's very dependant on Mr. Lixy's health at the time. He's still recovering from his last hospital stay...but doing pretty well to date.
We've never been to Niagra falls. That won't be the highlight though. Meeting you and Mrs. OF and PF and everybody will be grade A fun!
It's about an 6-8 hour drive for us so we'll stay the weekend I suppose. Hope to see ya...and anyone else who attends!
Oldfart

We're hoping you can be there, both of you. I look at the calendar and it's so close it's scary.
Mrs Oldfart is getting into the spirit, wanting to meet the people I've spent so long on the 'puter with.

I did a quick search for hotel rooms yesterday. The second place I looked at offered a suite for eight adults for $235 American. I hadn't thought of something like that but it could perhaps work?
Besides the obvious attraction, there's casinos in the area & wine-tasting tours. If anyone is interested in the wine, lemme know & I'll do some research.

I always wanted to go wine tasting, but I don't drink anymore.
But a little casino trip would be fun. :D

It's not Vegas like Boog & I talked about . . . :D
I don't gamble, I just wanted to go to the desert to find peyote. I digress!

I only play the slots.......cha ching!!!! And I don't spend much, I just like watching people and seeing pretty colored lights......no I have'nt been smoking wacky weed. :D
Hmmm, we could find you a desert nomad to lead you to peyote. LOL

A quick question for you Canadians, that is, you people from Canadia.
Cross border traffic between the US and Canada is just a show of ID for citizens of the two countries, but do we have to jump through the hoops to get a visa for Canada?
Departure and arrival taxes were also mentioned.
We've had it suggested that the Canadian side of the Falls is more scenic, and if it makes for a nicer venue, are there any solid reasons why not?
Steph

I hadn't thought about international visitors, OF. My bad.
I've just jumped on here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pub/visit.html
Americans can cross without a passport but if there's a criminal record involved, you'd be better off with one. A driver's licence suffices for the next 18 months or so, I believe.

It occurs to me, just throwing in my :2cents: , considering Oz & Canada's mutual status as former British Empire subjects might be enough to grease the skids of the customs procedures? Just a thought, seems that at some time in the not-to-distant past that crossing the borders may have fairly easy, could that still be?

Mrs OF's checking through the red-tape factories.
We can but hope.

*sigh* I wish that i could go...I even checked out cost of travel/flights....But I am meeting up with a very special Pixie of my own, over yonder and 'cross the pond.
Mayhem again will let me have puter access while I am over at his place, so I'll be checking often on how great your travels were, Mr. and Mrs. OldFart! :D:D:D Safe journies!

Mr. Lixy would probably not want to share a room with anyone. Not because he's anti-social...just that he needs "personal time in the library" more often than most peeps would. I know you'll all understand.
Still have this trip in our sites if all stays as it is now.

I was hoping to take over a coffee shop or patisserie for the day.
The Popular Front for the Continued Liberation of Pixies (PFCLP) may be the appropriate instrument for this.

OK...I'll be the dummy who asks...
OF? What's a patisserie?

patisserie

Definition:
1. bake shop: a bakery that specializes in pastries and cakes
2. cakes: sweet pastries or cakes collectively
[Late 16th century. < French pâtisserie, modern form of Old French pastiserie < pasticier "make pastry" < late Latin pasta (see paste1)]

Ya don't say.
LMAO
.....The Popular Front for the Continued Liberation of Pixies (PFCLP) may be the appropriate instrument for this.
My question, (knowing the sly mind of the author  ) there’s more to that than I’m catching. I didn’t know Pixies needed liberation. :spin:
lol

Maybe he meant libation?
Oldfart
06-06-2006, 12:09 PM
The focus word was "Continued".
With the world trying to to turn us into bland conformists, Pixies is our insturment
of survival as offbeat individuals.
But libation works for me.

Mrs. DB and myself are trying to work things out now for a quick trip east. We've never seen Niagara Falls and we'd love to meet several Pixies. :)
