I adored Rockstar:INXS but am having trouble swallowing the second season (http://rockstar.msn.com/news/mbpmsnpr) line up. What say you?

I believe I commented that the INXS show was a little too creepy for me, in trying to replace a dead singer...this new one just seems to be trying to resurrect some dead careers...
Meh. Rockstar: INXS was great becasue you were able to see the rebirth of a band that was loved (or at least fondly remebered) by many.
I don't see this going well at all. At least not in the way the last Rockstar went. I see this as being more like a train wreck. It will probably be popular due to dysfunctionality. Or it'll be cancelled within the first month.

I think that part of the charm of the previous season was that INXS was not into individualized self promotion. They wanted to be a band and focused attention on a new lead singer. I see the attention whores in the new one focusing the attention on themselves not a new lead.

I was wrong!!!!! I love it already and my two faves are girls!!!!!!! Gooooooo Patrice and Dilana kicked ass!

I watched some of it tonight....Mr. IWM was kinda getting into it already too.
I have to say Dilana kinda scared me.
I don't really have a favorite yet, but there were a few I didn't care much for.

Cause she is scary and a bad ass is why I dig her. Some I did not like at all either. I could have shot the kid who sang Cult of Personality. I know that one dude fucked Roxanne up but I think he may have a voice.
I was on the phone during those two performances so I missed them. :( I heard the comment that Dave made to the 'Roxanne' guy... ouch.

I'm in love... Dilana. For me they can stop the show now.
BTW was Tommy Lee an asshole last night or what? I'm not sure I like SuperNova. While Zadya is digging her grave she has a point. They have not told them or shown them or us really what they are looking for.
Mr. Lil gets very aggravated by the conflicting advice, 'don't try to be Courtney Love', 'be like Mick Jagger'.

I have not watched the show. However, it is being played big here in the media, as one of the 14 left is a hometown boy from the city in which I work:

Oh cool! But ummm He's not in my top 3. He should have gone on Idol.
Dammit... I missed it last night's show. I thought tonight was the performance show for some reason. :(
I really like Storm. She's probably my fave at the moment. Dilana is winning me over. She killed it last night. I like Lukas' performances, but his attitude is a bit of a put off.
As far as dislikes... does anyone think Zayra should be on this show? Is she really better than what must have been thousands of other auditioning singers?
Lilith

She may look better in blue PVC than me but she is a techno chick and has nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo business on the show.
Dilana is my new Marty. I love her too much to see her saddled with SuperNova.

Funny you mention that Lil.......
I see Supernova as a typical, old boyband............ Dilana is waaaaaaaay too good for them. She has recreated herself each week to match her music. She's a talent!

Here's some insight on why Phil was let go last night...
From :
This article (http://www.delmarvanow.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060707/LIFESTYLE/607070304/1024)
Ritchie said his primary goal for competing is to gain exposure for his band.
I mean, really I just hope to gain exposure. I love my band and I love the music," he said. "I'm not stoked about the music Supernova's popping out."
He said he knows if he wins the competition he's obligated to tour with the band, but that's a risk he's willing to take.
"I may have taken a risk. I love my boys back home, but you know I still have to look out for myself in this world," he said. "I've got to create opportunities for myself, and this is too huge an opportunity to say no to."
Apparently some members of the studio audience reported Dave Navarro read from that article during the show, but that part was cut during editing. I also read on Dave Navarro's blog that they spend a lot more time talking with the rockers after they perform, but a lot is cut to fit into the hour long time slot.
I think they should have pulled a double elimination and sent Zayra packing too. :kissass:
WOW! Dilana looked :hot: in her leather pants last night!
Zarya actually started off pretty good with her song but I didn't like where it went.
Magni pulled off a really good performance, IMO. I almost teared up when they told him they were going to fly his family out to see him.
Ryan's performance was great. Wish I could say the same for his attitude.
I've seen Jill perform with Trans-Siberian Orchestra and she's awesome, buttttt... she is over-singing many of these songs. I totally agreed with the band's comments last night.
Toby was good.
I like Josh's style, but I don't see it being right for Supernova. He performed well last night.
Dana has taken the comments she's recieved to heart, but looks like she's just adding a growl and a scowl to be a rocker.
Lukas was underwhelming. No spark last night at all.
Patrice was better than usual, but still not shining bright.
As far as Storm goes... if she doesn't win I'm driving down to Portland and stalking her. :boink: :p She was soooooo good last night.
And that's the Aqua report. :p

I've seen but two minutes this season...and it was of her singing while Tommy was on drums. I can't remember the song, which means my attempts to drive the entire memory from my mind is only partially sucessful.
Talk about chasing away viewers! lmao
Fourth attempt to post here. I'm obviously not meant to write a review of last night's show.
Zayra wasn't in the bottom three, but should've been. Jill, Dana, and Patrice were.
Dana went home.
The end.

Oooooooooooooo wait til you see tonight's show.
Again Zayra is not in the bottom three... WTF? She should have been gone WAY before Josh or Jill.
Btw Lil... what'd you think of Lukas' version of Creep?
I"m with Aqua, Storm is HOT, AND has a great voice. I really liked Patrice at the beginning, but I"m leaning more towards Dilana, Storm, Ryan and Magni in the last 4. I"m also with everybody else...WTF is Zyeda still on there for??? She's pretty much butchered every song I"ve heard her sing and dresses like something out of A Clockwork Orange! She must be blowing everybody on the panel. I think the best performances that I've been able to see were Ryan's "Losing My Religion", Lukas's "Creep", Dilana's "Won't Get Fooled Again", and my personal fave, Magni's acoustic version of "The Dolphin's Cry"

Peeps will disagree but I feel Lukas is so so fake. I think he sang Creep as opposed to that thing he usually does where her gargles marbles but that doesn't mean he did a great job of it. The encore produced a sloppy version where he did not even seem to attempt to hold the notes. He needs breath control and someone to slap that one eye open one eye half closed look off his face.
Josh picked the best song for his voice and the song was about a guitar player...he needed to do what he did. I had been waiting for the double elimination like last season. They don't have enough shows scheduled to kick them off one by one.
Who's the next to go then? or next two?
I thought Lukas did better on the encore. Though I don't think he was all that with it... I'd rather hear Marty sing it again. ;)

Next to go is Patrice.
I hate to say it, but Zayra's song was not that bad. Not Supernova style, but a lot better than anything else she's done.
Lilith... You were right. She sang in Spanish.
Dilana was really good, but overpowered the song a touch vocally.
Storm was disappointing. Bad arrangement on her song.
Lukas was really good.
Ryan was great, even with his ever present pissed at the world face.
Patrice was good, but she lacks charisma. I think she will go home tonight.
Toby did good on Solsbury Hill. His stint on the bongos was cool.
Magni has really stepped up his game. He did a great job.
Obviously this is all my opinion.

I concur except I think Lukas sucks ass.
I like Ryan, Toby, Magni, Dilana.

finally. She must have sucked like a Hoover.
Dilana's performance with Supernova... Uhm, well, she sang really good. The thing I didn't like about it was it didn't come off (to me anyway) as watching 'Supernova' it looked llike 'Dilana and her back up band'. Especially when the dancers came out.
Zarya did a song by Blue October called Razorblade. I've not heard of the band or the song before and it was lackluster.
Patrice came out and rocked her song, Celebrity Skin, quite well truth be told.
Then Magni proved he had no business being in the bottom three with an awesome performance of Creep.
Mrs. Aqua was giddy over Zarya finally going home. :p

I meant sucked in the traditional sense. :bj:
Ohhhhhhhhhhh.....
I'm wit choo.
And I think you're right. :p
This thread keeps dying, yet here I am again with a brief (or not so brief) report. And maybe a slight vent.
First off... all performances were really good.
Patrice played an original that was, despite the distortion, rather Pop sounding. Tommy Lee commented that if Supernova got ahold of it, they could dirty it up a bit and make it work.
Magni sang Smells Like Teen Spirit. The band liked his angst, but Tommy thought he should have destroyed a guitar or something during the song.
Ryan did an original that, to me, could have easily passed for hit song from an established band. It sounded really good. Supernova said he looked really comfortable and are happy to see him rocking out.
Dilana did Every Breath You Take. Sang it great. Costume choice... not so great. Singing her own name during an instrumental break in the song... WTF was that? That just seemed so egotistical to me. I didn't like Dilana so much at first, but she was winning me over as the show progressed. Her attitude the past few weeks is turning me off big time. /vent
Supernova thinks she is the bomb and pretty much said she's done everything perfect so far.
Storm did Cryin' by Aerosmith. Gilby didn't think she brought on a strong enough performance. Tommy wanted her in less clothes. They joked about the corset she wore being Dave Navarro's and when Dave commented, 'Let me have my corset back right now, honey.' Storm fired back in jest with, 'Come get it, bitch.'
Toby did a slightly re-arranged Layla by Derek and The Dominos. Gilby didn't like the arrangement, but praised his vocals. Tommy liked the performance a lot, as did Jason.
Lukas did All The Things I've Done by The Killers. Gilby (damn he's a downer) remarked that Lukas spent a lot of time facing the back of the stage, but that he sang awesome. Lukas said he was interacting with the band. Gilby replied that he should focus more on the people in the crowd. Overall, Supernova liked it.

Still I hate Lukas and this he sings like he's trying to gargle gravel, on purpose. Ryan kicked booty. Patrice is going home. Storm needs to be in musical theater. She is not a rock star. Dilana kills me. Stalker song chanting her name, works and the mom thing made me cry. Toby was ok, I like Layla.

I swear my age must be catching up with me! I've had to watch the webcasts to keep up with the show this time around because of working graveyard shifts so I DO appreciate the update Aqua, thanks. Am I the only one who see Magni as the logical choice as a frontman for this group? All through the event he's been the epitome of a considerate band mate. His stage presence is polished and he's shown he can turn almost any song style to his own.Dilana and Lucas seem to be having an ego contest, while their vocals do OK. Ryan just gets on my nerves, his vocals are powerful but the original he did was out there somewhere to me. The lyrics missed bigtime. It seemed he wrote the song just trying to advantage his growling. I admire Toby's redo of Layla but his vocal range leaves a little to be desired. Storm's good but her versatility needs some work as well. If this show runs like INXS Dilans and Lucas will finish first and second but I just can't see it. I know opinionated of me but then... music is subjective and I just know what I like.
Lilith

I agree with you about Magni. He's also the more mature seeming.
There was just once when Magni was being an ass. During the collaboration songwriting exercise he was a jerk to Jill. That's it from what I've seen. He's also brought better and better performances each week.

Lukas needs to go.
Another performance show went down last night. They also focused on the Dilana Drama a bunch more, which I wish they would shut up about, but drama = ratings I suppose.
Anyway, here's what happened, (with some of my thoughts on the performances.)
Lukas - Lithium / Nirvana
He stated that he doesn't like this song and rearranged it... and it worked for me. He did it very well. Dave and Supernova really liked it.
Magni - I Alone / Live
He's already performed a Live song and I predicted he would kick ass on this one. Not exactly going out on a limb with that, but he did exactly as I thought. It was very well received by Dave and the Band.
Storm - Bring Me To Life / Evanescence
Toby sang the male lead during the chorus of this song and Storm did a really good job, but not great and I didn't like her dress very much. Dave and the Band thought Toby stole the show somewhat and reminded Storm that at this point she had to be great, not just good.
Toby - Rebel Yell / Billy Idol
I think while a lot of people thought Magni would knock it out of the park with I Alone there were a lot of people that thought Toby would strike out with Rebel Yell. Well, as Toby would say, 'Evs'. Grand Slam Home Run would describe his performance. He rocked it out from beginning to end pulled a bunch of women on stage with him for the finish. Dave and the Band were stoked on his performance and Gilby said he brought that extra something he was looking for.
Ryan - Clocks / Coldplay
I liked a lot of things about this performance and didn't care for a few things. It was high energy though he started slow, looking like he was going to play the piano again for the performance. He started singing the 'You are' part of the song slowly, by himself, and then the band kicked in heavy with the intro of the song and he jumped up on the piano and started rocking out. The main thing I didn't like was that he seemed to have trouble hitting the high range of the song and would moreso scream it then sing it. It was powerful, but seemed to convey a lack of ability. Dave and the Band were very impressed with this performance as well.
Dilana - Mother Mother / Tracy Bonham
A really strong performance, though I didn't like her 'screamy' parts, which the song is supposed to have. Her outfit was awesome and Dave said he felt it was the best performance he had seen out of BOTH Seasons of Rock Star. I disagree, but that's me. It's going to be hard for anyone to top Marty's Creep or Wish You Were Here from Season One, IMO. The Band really liked Dilana's performance too.
At the end of the show the bottom three were Lukas, Storm, and I think Ryan. Based on the total of the performance (singing and stage presence) I think that is what the bottom three should be.
So there's been a band around for a long time called Supernova. Not a huge band, but they gained a certain cultish popularity with their song 'Chewbacca' that was used in the Kevin Smith film, Clerks. Well, they have sued the Rock Star: Supernova band over the name and immediately following the show's finale they can no longer use the name Supernova for their band.
The story can be found here. (http://www.kfmb.com/stories/story.63147.html)
