View Full Version : Controversial or "hot Topic" question

Okay,

What does everyone think about the posting of potential controversial topics on this board? There are a few current events which I find interesting and would be curious about others opinions (Similar to my "I don't get Islam" thread).

But those types of topics can really create some tension or strong feelings, which we may not want to have on this board. The last thing I'd want is to accidentally put up some charged topics that made people leave or "yell" at each other on threads. We got a pretty good thing going here.

What do you think? Do they have a place here, or we should just leave that well enough alone?

Questions are always legitimate, but sometimes are just thrown "out there" to stir up an opinion frenzy.

If you truly have a question you want answered, seeking knowledge or context, then that is legitimate.

If you just want to stir a hornet's nest, as I plan to do with my question about the federal funding shortfall in the struggle for recognition of the legitimacy of land rights for gay whales, real toothed whales, not those woosy baleen bitches, then be prepared to be castigated by the right minded, cetacean friendly majority who swim, sorry, frequent this forum.

At times there have been topics that initially were general, easy going qustions or opinions and took a turn somewhere along the discussion. Sometimes they'd leave a bad taste in some peeps mouths...sometimes they'd be cause for a few peeps to leave the boards "forever". But for the most part, when calm was called for either by the thread particpants or the power holders at Pixies, everyone took a step back and let the thread die off.

Personal opinions and beliefs are just that...personal! There are the few who want everyone to think and believe as they do because they cannot fathom that while their ideals and beliefs may be right for them they may not fit into the lives of everyone.

This issue has been discussed here at Pixies before...whether to NOT discuss something for fear of starting a battle. I think it's been settled that this particular forum is a "general" forum and most anything can be proposed.

Ideally, what we all have to keep in mind is that we have a choice to open a thread and participate or leave it alone and participate only in the threads we choose. If we do participate we should handle it in a mature manner without name calling, anger and threats toward any Pixie member.

In a nut shell Jax...RUN IT UP THE FLAG POLE AND SEE IF ANYONE SALUTES!

P.S. Might I add that it was very nice of you to ask about the potential problem first and we should all bear this thread in mind should we, indeed, get our feathers ruffled by future topics from Jax!

Now OF...about those gay whales?

Land rights? I think the sea is big enough for all persuasions of mammals with fins!

Fuck them...they can't have part of the land too!

*wanders off wondering if I even understood the proposed funding issue in the correct context. *shrug* That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!*

*giggle* ^^^^how NOT to handle yourself in a contraversial thread topic!

Lixy, that's part of the trouble.

They want a series of shoals at the mouth of a certain river that may have certain charm.

Apparently they want to turn them into a gay bar.

Painted flukes and an exaggerated aesthetic sense.

Scientists have long wondered at the behavior of whales, especially when they do that "jump out of the water" thing.

A recent, as yet to be generally accepted, discovery is that this is the behaviour of straight whales when confronted with an incessant barrage of comments about how untidy the kelp is, how terrible this krill is for the hips and if someone could just develop a tofu shrimp how much healthier that could all be, and whether that whalesong from Pacific4 should be banned due to homocetaciaphobic content.

Apparently for the layman, it's easy. Some go down and some go up.

The something in the water is biodegradable, after the little whale tadpoles stop cavorting in the ocean. And you thought it was crocs, stingers and sharks we had to worry about.

Why stop with protecting only the gay whales? Does the possiblity not exist for other species to prefer their own gender? Let's not discriminate now

We use to do that or so I thought. I do remember one back when I first was a member about interacial relationships that started a good discussion and some tempers seem to get flared but it was all in a good debate type thing. Different beliefs and opinions.

So I say go for it....

"They say the sea is cold, but the sea contains
the hottest blood of all, and the wildest, the most urgent.

All the whales in the wider deeps, hot are they, as they urge
on and on, and dive beneath iceburgs.
the right whales, the sperm-whales, the hammer-heads, the killers
there they blow, there they blow, hot wild hot breath out of the sea!
And they rock, and they rock, through the sensual ageless ages
on the depths of the seven seas,
and through the salt they reel with drunk delight
and the tropics tremble they with love
and roll with massive, strong desire, like gods.
Then the great bull lies up against his bride
in the blue deep bed of the sea, as the mountain, in the zest of life:
and out of the inward roaring of the inner red ocean of whale-blade
the long tip reaches stron, intense, like the maelstrom-tip, and comes to rest
in the clasp and the soft, whild clutch of a she-whale's fathomless body.

And over the bridge of the whale's strong phallu, linking the wonder of whales
the burning archangels under the sea keep passing, back and forth
keep passing, archangeslof bliss
from him to her, from her to him, great Chreubim
that wait on whales in mid-ocean, suspended in the waves of the sea
great heaven of whales in the waters, old hierarchies.

And enormous mother whales lie dreaming suckling their whale-tender young
and dreaming with strange whale eyes wide openin the waters of the beginning and the end
And bull-whales gather their women and whale-calves in a ring
when danger threaten, on the surface of the ceaseless flood
and range themselves like a great fierce Seraphim facing the threat
encircling their huddled monsters of love.
And all this happens in the sea, in the salt
Where God is also love, but without words:
and Aphrodite is the wife of whales
most happy, happy she!

And Venus among the fishes skips and is a she-dolphin
she is gay, delighted porpoise sporting with love and the sea
she is the female tunny-fish, round and happy among the males
and dense with happy blood, dark rainbow bliss in the sea."

Why shave when it's so much easier to wax?

WildIrish
04-12-2006, 06:50 AM
I don't profess to be a Whale expert, but I do admit to having a rather long lineage of people who love Whales, so in my feeble mind...that qualifies me to talk rather pseudointellectually about the topic.

And because my body produces sperm, that adds credibility. Just ignore the fact that there no longer exists a direct path for said sperm to vacate in a not so clean and orderly manner, for that's irrellevant simply because it doesn't support my argument.

In addition, though I am NOT a fan of the Prince of Wales, I very much AM a fan of hair that exists to cover moist openings, much like baleen but with a cumpletely different purpose altogether, for I can't imagine ever wanting to lick and nuzzle baleen. Not that there's anything wrong with it.

Therefore, I'm obviously not a gay Whale.

Thank you for your time.

Interesting topic OF. I like the way you think.

I am willing to call a truce here, if only because funding resources are so hard to procure...perhaps a campaign to Shave the Gay Whales...

Our first mission should be to send our research vessels to the shallows off the Bikini Atoll, since shaving the whales in the Bikini area is always the trickiest part...

Lilith,

We seem to have been waxing lyrical, not whale-iclal.

WI, despite the fact that whales lack some of the cuter and more utilitarian aspects of a sheep (who's ever heard of a happy shepherd cuddled with a whale on the side of Ben Rooting?) we must not let out own homocetaciaphobia creep into this.

The fact that it is sooooooooo hard finding a whale who is not just plain downright ugly makes it even more difficult to establish a meaningful and respectful liaison.

"Give it to me, big boy" just cannot translate from click and whistle talk with any accuracy, again poisoning any possible relationship.

This is turning into a killer thread.

Could it be all the whalesongs they heard were Broadway showtunes, leading them to believe they were gay whales?

"Whales" instead of "Cats"

SAVE THE WHALES (collect the whole set).

bare4you
04-14-2006, 03:16 PM
It might be hard to save the whales if the population has gone gay don't you think? Then again, there is one whale out there that is dedicated to ensuring the species isn't going to be totally extinct.

In keeping with my theme from above -

Send in the "Sperm Whale" instead of "Clowns" :D
