Well, I went this morning for the mammogram & left breast ultrasound. I got there around 9:45, then I went, got registered, and got taken back to what they called "The Serenity Suite" around 10ish while DH had to sit in the main lobby. After about 10 mins in the "Suite", the nurse came and got me and took me to the US room...she did the U/S, but said she didn't see anything. So, she got another lady to come do the U/S...yeesh! After the 2nd time around, they still didnt' see anything...back to the "Suite" I went. By now it's close to 11am. So, I spend another 15 mins or so sitting in the "Suite" and then they come get me and do ANOTHER u/s. It was almost 11:30 when I got done and they NEVER did do the mammogram because the radiologist said that since they couldnt see anything conclusive w/the U/S, he wouldnt do the mammogram because of I was so young. WTF? Anyway, I'm gonna call my doctors office tomorrow and see what she has to say about them not doing it...after all, she did order the mammogram. My SIL says she's never had them do the u/s first that they always do the mammogram first and that my(our--she see's the same doc) is gonna have a fit because they didnt do the mammogram.

It is standard practice on a woman of your age to do an ultrasound first. Often abnormalities in a young breast are better seen in an ultrasound because of the density of the breast tissue. I had to have one at a young age and it went very similar to your experience.

A few years ago, my breasts developped quite painful denser spots that I was worried about enough to go to a doctor. I also only had an ultrasound, which established that that's exactly what it was : only denser breast tissue. The hard spots have since disappeared.

I'd be jumping for joy about not having to have a mammogram - they are incredibly unpleasant apparently. I have no idea how in heaven they'd ever squash a breast as large as mine flat, and I can't imagine it ever being the same again...Eech, I don't want to think about it!

Oh and I love how you're disgusted that it took until 11.30 before you'd finished. In the UK, if you get a hospital appointment for 9:45 you'd be really pleased if you actually got seen as early as 11.30. I promise that's no exageration.....but it's free, so I suppose we can't really complain.
