Who are/were your favourite muppets/puppets?

Saw this thread on a Canadian music board today & it's hilarious. Fraggle Rock, Waldorf & Statler . . . There were some Canadian ones mentioned like "The Friendly Giant" -- check out the rooster playing the harp. He was the coolest! :) Ah, the 70s!

An underrated man was DON MUSIC

Composer Don Music was a character on the children's television show Sesame Street.

The typical sketch would have him become frustrated by his inability to think of the final line to well known songs such as "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb", and react by banging his head on his piano. However, a reporter observing him, typically Kermit the Frog, would then help Don by suggesting some suitable lyrics. As a result, Don would be inspired to suddenly come up with a whole alternate lyrical composition to the familiar children's songs with which he immediately plays a full arrangement without any rehearsal with a line of a backup singers that suddenly appear from the next room.

Don Music debuted in 1973, and would soon be discontinued, as parents complained to the Children's Television Workshop that their kids were imitating him by banging their heads against things. Concerns were also raised that Don was teaching inappropriate ways to vent their anger when things weren't going right.

He kept a picture of Sesame Street songwriter and composer Joe Raposo on the wall, although it was never actually identified as such. Don Music also maintained a bust of Ludwig von Beethoven on his piano, and often apologized to "Ludwig" for his failure as a composer.

Don Music was performed by Richard Hunt.

Also, on the Simpsons in 1995 has a similarity of Don Music in an episode "Bart Sells His Soul" a tribute to Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida in which that the organist banged its head on the organ.

OMG The Friendly Giant

He was on Steph when I was a kid. His show started in the fifties and ran about 30 years.

I really can't pick a favorite muppet but I sure liked the two old men in the balcony but then again ,I was old enough when they came on for the first time to understand the jokes. Did I ever mention that the big eagle muppet reminds me of George Bush?

When I was a kid I loved Lambchop with Shari Lewis. I have a Lambchop puppet too. Don't tell WildIrish. :)

check him out in a wicked clip I didn't know he had a name...the one & only time I saw him was when he was trying to compose the Sesame St jingle, of course Kermit comes along & suggests changes that turned it into "Can you tell me how to get to Yellowstone Park"...& then asks him how to get to Sesame Street...but also I noticed when Don started saying "Never, never, never", the voice seemed very similar to the voice of Junior on Fraggle Rock...yeh, I was a fan of that too, I had HBO when #1 son was little, & that gave me an excuse to watch it with him on Sunday mornings...

I nearly lost the theme of the thread when I saw those boobies bouncing up and down. That av is absolutely hypnotizing!

I love Beaker & Bunsen.

I love Grover AND Gonzo.

I love Oscar & Ernie...but not Bert. (Probably the result of the widespread rumor that Bert is evil. :p)

And my favorite Christmas show of all time is "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas".

Favorite muppet has to be Grover........followed closely by Sweetums from the Muppet Show.

Now, I'm gonna show my age here.........my favorite PUPPET has got to be, without a doubt.....HOWDY DOODY!!.........followed closely by Kukla and Ollie of Kukla, Fran and Ollie fame. I know PF and DB will remember them......not sure about anyone else right now.

I can't STAND Elmo.....sorry.

My favorites were
Swedish Chef

and Beaker always gave me a laugh.

I'm forced to admit that I was given the nickname Scooter back in HS so I feel I must also mention him.(that was part of another thread I posted not too long ago.)

Ok, the Geeful and the Gonk were on Sesame Street. One couldn't reach the fruit hanging on the tree....can't recall what the other one couldn't do. The lesson taught was about co-operation. Tag line of the skit was "Let's call this 'CO-OPERATION' " and the other one would say "No, Let's call it 'SHIRLEY'!" Does that ring a bell?

Nice to see you too, sweetie! How ya been??

Hey..back the F___ off.

I never said anything about Elmo being "bad"...I just said I personally, speaking for ONLY myself......don't care for him.

Hell..I EVEN apologized because I know that he's one of Henson and Co's most popular puppets.

Maybe YOU should be the one who "grows up"...if my comment upsets you THAT much.

My favorite is probably Floyd. Or Zoot.

I also dig the yupyup guys. It's not uncommon at all to hear me when I'm walking around saying, 'yupyupyupyupyupyupyupyupyup, uh-huh uh-huh, yupyupyupyupyupyupyup...' :p

And I haven't watched Muppet Show or Sesame Street in years.

Sugarsprinkles

I know what you mean, Aqua. I haven't watched it in years either, but some of the tag lines stick in the mind forever. I started watching it when I was expecting my first son, and didn't stop watching on a regular basis till #3 started school. That would be from about '73 to '84 or so. It really does 'infect' the mind. Much like Mel Brooks, Allan Sherman, etc.
