View Full Version : For newbies like me to the old vets

I have noticed this site has been active for about 5 years or so.
For thos who have been around 2,3,4,5 years, how has this site changed since its inception or since you first started coming here?
Is it better, worse, same, different? Why, how come?

I understand these kind of message board sites have an ever-changing life where active membership rises and falls.

While I'd hardly consider myself an old vet, I have seen the dynamic of Pixies change. Three or four times, actually.

Pixies is a living document. Everyone that joins brings something to the site and people that leave take something away. Sometimes those things are good and sometimes they're not. That's what makes us a family.

Last year was different from last week...and yesterday was different from today. Though some names and faces change, the mindframe is still there. We have fun and get along in a respectful and sexy way.

I totally agree with this statement. Pixies are the best people in my opinion for the way we all treat each other. I love that I can flirt outrageously and not be assaulted by cyber wannabes. Not that you can't find one if your looking. ;)

Remember the near-disaster 2-3 years ago when we thought the whole site was going to go under? Oh, man, I am ever so glad we somehow dodged that!

Mostly, the changes have come from just the different mix of people. What hasn't changed is that this is generally a cool place to hang for a while.

The people are what make this group great. There's been a lot of turnover in the names that visit Pixies over the past 3.5 years I've been a member...but new and fun people come along to replace those we love and have lost.

Personally, I miss the OLD forum look and feel. Anyone else remember the love button and how much fun we had with it? :) And of course there used to be a shout box. PF can tell you all about it. :D

I also dislike the new rules on pics. So many of our old pics have been removed and it makes me sad...but that's not anyone else's fault but the US government's. :(

This is a open community that's populated by some very close friends, who like to laugh, flirt, express their sexuality, and support one another...and I hope that at least never changes (even if the window dressings get updated occasionally).

Wouldn't call my self an old vet, but the two years I have been here have been pretty nice. Most let me be what I wanna be.

I haven't noticed any big changes since I've been here. It's a great place tho and I have made a few special friends that I wouldn't trade for anything.

I've been around here nearly 4 years (God, has it really been that long?!) and I think it has definitely changed around here in that time. I'd say that the chat room and boards are less active than they used to be, but that the group are as tight knit as ever.

For those of us who've been around a long time, we've seen highs and lows, we've seen relationships made and broken, and as a group, experienced crises (like the site nearly closing) and tragedies (I still miss Skip as much as I did when it first happened) as well as triumphs (graduations and promotions) and joys (various births, marriages and engagements). All of these things change us as people, and change us as a group, because we genuinely care about what happens to our fellow Pixies.

I love this site because we're friends....not a collection of strangers all talking AT each other like you see on other boards, and I can't see that changing.

OMG, I'd forgotten all about that! I LOVED the love button, because I scored really highly with everyone, do you remember?! I was the most loved up person in Pixie-land! LOL

Of course the new picture rules wouldn't be an issue if the site was still hosted in the UK like it used to be, but better it be moved to the US than finish altogether when Kim could no longer look after us all. :)

No pictures were removed due to the new guidelines. If pictures were removed it was by their owners or at their request.

Been a member since May, 2002 and love Pixies. There have been changes ... like the shout box is gone :( and some of the smilies aren't with us now :( ... but ...

truth is ...

those things don't make the site. What makes the site are leaders like Lilith, Sharni, Fzzy, and Aqua; and members who, day-after-day, stop in and share part of themselves. May be in pictures; maybe in text; maybe in stories ... but shared none-the-less. We are like a family ... an exceptionally good family. True, some have moved away; and some new family members have joined us. But, being family we have little ups and downs, but we seem to hold together. What joins us, is fun and trust and love.

It's a great site and I hope it always will be.

Wow! So many links are gone now...I just assumed it was because of the new picture guidelines. Sorry to assume, Lil...

If you find a series of dead links please let me know so I can fix that! No need to be sorry, it was a natural assumption.

People come and go but there is a core group who remain and are the backbone of this place. Just to name a few: Lilith, Sharni/Alasse and PF.... Pixies would not be Pixies without them. The people who leave are missed but there's always new ones to welcome.

The biggest change that I can think of is the lack of participation in the chat room. There used to be people in there all the time it seemed. And at certain times it would be packed. It was always fun then. There's still a few regulars in chat all the time. Thank goodness for them or there'd be no chat at all. Thats about the biggest change I see and one I miss the most.

Ditto to all of the above...pixies is & always has been a work-in-progress...as one of the more "veteran" members myself (coming up on 5 years now, jeez has it really been that long?), I would suggest that the biggest change has been that there was a lot more excitement among the members in the early days, as if it was a new "toy"...now it's more like a comfy place to call "home"...not that I'm complaining at all, don't take it as grousing on my part, but that's my take on it...

scotz I think you hit on something huge. Way back then, all this, the web, the site, this lifestyle was new and so people have now settled into it all. I see the same at several other long term sites.

Remembering the very old times I thought I would throw some in for you.

The Pixies concept Began all the way back in late 1998, by an absolutely
wonderful person, some may still remember know as Kim.
And basically was just to do with erotic stories, and discussion board.
with up dates to what became available for gerneral use within sites, Pixies was
updated, Moved or restarted 3 times leading up to the 2000 melinium B/S.
Pixies had grown from a meger 100 members to almost 3500 in that time.
Pixies then changed to the format similar to what is being used now, and has been updated along with the technology available for the programs used.
Many members have come and gone some to return after awhile to find that the site
had grown and sorted out problems that were a reason for thier departure, or that the ppl that cuased it were no longer active.
With the last move to what Pixies is known for know quite a few members were lost during this stage as it was not an easy site to find, but as it has proven the original concept has survived many changes over time, and when looking at Pixies from an Adult sexual lifestyle discussion board, It would be very hard for Pixies not to be rated as the best world wide, and with a group now consisting of nearly 24500 members it is most certainly THE one site world wide that can boast being a community, not just a web site with members, I suppose the only thing to be disappointed with ( with regards to this thread) is that you will most likely only find membership to Pixies started around the very early months of 2001
But please be informed that your beloved Pixies is much older that this, and remembering the cat fights when Pixies first became moderated, unforunatly I think I am showing my age.
But remember that this is your home and it will only be as good as YOU make it

I remember it too... made me cry. It was so romantic and I remember thinking how lucky Sharni was and what a wonderful couple they were. That hasn't changed.

Egads...for The Quiet One to make a post that long makes "War & Peace" seem like a pamphlet...
Of course, I knew that there was an earlier incarnation (or 2 or 3) of pixies, but it always seemed to me that it really got its legs in the April 2001 revamp...

We have fun and get along in a respectful and sexy way.Yup. Respect is a biggie and sets Pixies aside from the rest

I love that I have found friends here with whom I can chat about every aspect of sex with as much ease as swapping recipes with my 'real life' friends. I've said it before, I felt like I'd come home when I started posting, even though I don't post an awful lot. I spent many years reading and enjoying the stories, I wish I'd have ventured into this part of Pixies when I first found the site.

Pixies has made me care for people I've never met, care for people I've never even exchanged posts with, I've shared tears and laughter, met people I now consider friends for life and learned a few things along the way. I feel relatively safe here and like being here, it's fun and supportive, and there are people here who understand me.

As for changes, I haven't really been on the forums long enough to notice, but activity on all forums changes throughout the year, much of it due to one thing or another happening in people's home lives. Summer usually slows down, as do weekends. Change is good, it keeps things ticking along :)
