View Full Version : Why don’t women like to look at naked men?

Hi again, everyone. I recently posted a few pics of myself in the “Pictures of Men” section of the forums, and it’s been an interesting experience. I was a little surprised by the low number of page views on many threads in that section: many had a few tens of page views, and I suspect some of the views were from gay/bi men or straight men curious to see how they compare. Anyway, I peeked in the “Pictures of Women” section and found that the thread views there averaged in the thousands! Even by a conservative estimate, the ratio of “men looking at women” to “women looking at men” on Pixie’s is greater than 100:1. It’s really surprising to me because the male:female ratio on Pixie’s appears to be about 50:50. OK, we can assume that the 50:50 ratio is for posters only, and a lot of men register at Pixie’s just to look at pics and never post. Still, these observations suggest that most women on Pixie’s hardly ever go into the “Pictures of Men” section. Why is that? I’ve heard explanations ranging from “male bodies are ugly, hairy, and lumpy” to “women don’t respond to visual stimuli as strongly as men,” but I’d love to hear the opinions of the women here.

generally, it's true. although there are exceptions to any truth.
blame the differences between the sexes, i guess, but for me--i am rarely in the mood for pics, and even more rarely for looking at porn. i do look occassionally, though, and always try to comment when i do but i'm more interested in words.
and men's bodies are not ugly. it's their differences from my own body that makes them beautiful.

I can’t answer for the ladies of Pixies, but I would need more information to come to the same conclusion you have. The gender ratio of members (particularly among lurkers) would be critical. With less than 1% (my unconfirmed estimate) of members posting more than 12 per year, it’s impossible to make a statement. I do know that we are fortunate to have open and free women that share their intimate thoughts with us and give us the pleasure of looking at them too. I agree that guys are ugly but damn happy they don’t think so. ;)

I don't think the actual male:female ratio on Pixie's is all that important to the point I was trying to make. Even if it's 99:1 male:female, that would still suggest that men are far more likely to want to look at naked women than the other way around. I originally registered at this site solely to look at women, and it's probably the case with the vast majority of other male registrations.

men to look at naked men, too.
to be strictly scientific, more info is needed, but i think assumptions can be made, cause it isn't just here at pixies. bigbad gave me a link to another sight last night and i became so fascinated by what agaethwe is saying that i spent a few hours just looking at all the posts and then driving bigbad nuts talking about it incessantly cause the same was true of that one as well (only even more extremely), and is true of most every other one i've seen. even the tone of the the men's replies was charcteristic of what visual creatures they are, and how they strip sex and sexuality down to its most raw elements. i KNOW it's stereotypical, and that not all people fit their gender's temperament to a t ~ or even fit it at all, but you have to admit, pf, it is a general truth

That just seems to be the way it is on this site and others. That is one of the reasons alot of men don't post as much. Men are usually busy looking at all the sexy womens pics.

ROFL
I readily agree with this general thought. :)
I'll normally go along with the apparent until I’m shown or find something to the contrary. I guess as soon as you add numbers, I go into an ‘absolute’ mode, the same as I go into a ‘number’ mode when I’m given an absolute.
For this topic, I believe there are a lot of cultural factors and blurry gender differences coming together during a time of rapid change. I think it fair to say males openly ogling females:lust: is and has long been more socially acceptable than visa-versa:eek:. I think information about the physiological reaction of each to viewing the other would be interesting.
I don’t know how much is genetically motivated or related to the male mammal being the pursuer and the female being the pursued. I’ll further muddy the water by saying that “I believe” there is a lot higher ratio of woman looking at woman sexually than men looking at men.;)
Whatever the reason, I don’t care. I’m just grateful as hell :D that our ladies share their appealing beauty with us. :x:

Sicence claims men are more visual when it comes to stimulation which might support the women having the higher post claims in the picture forums. Personaly I have to be in the mood for the pics, the stories seem to do it more for me because I have to THINK. Although the men's pictures I have checked out are really yummy.

I rarely look at the pic section... don't get me wrong... Pics are great... tho I will rarely look unless someone has be intrigued otherwise... I prefer those of men that I know (or have gotten to know here)... I have never been one who is overly stimulated by visuals... on the other hand... talk to me... whisper things... paint me a picture with your words... and you have me... absolutely...
another words... stimulate my mind.... ;)

Try coming up with the ratio of women views to women's comments divided by the ratio of men viewsto men's comments. That will give you enough information to create an absolute. After coming to a ratio of women/men views/comments you can....ow.... :faint:

I think it's fair to say that in general, men are more 'visual' than women, while women are more interested in the erotic stories, the flirtatious chat and the serious discussion here at Pixies but there are other things to take into consideration. For me personally, I get far more of an idea of whether I'm attracted to a man from chatting in the general forums that looking at umpteen pictures of his member.
For example, women who post pictures here tend to be far more imaginative than the men. There are men (Fussy, Aqua and Glyndwr spring to mind immediately, but I know there are others) who demonstrate imagination and creativity in their posts but a lot of the men simply post pictures of their cocks. There's no build up to it, we don't get to see much of the rest of their bodies and there's often no story or sexy theme. I think we women tend to tease and draw the audience in more with our posts because we actually have to 'compete' more for the viewer's attention when we post pictures.
Finally, I know the reason that I personally don't tend to comment on men's pics is because in the past I've noticed that if I post to compliment a man whom I don't already consider a friend or acquaintance, they often take it as a come-on and I will then be propositioned in some way or other, something that I'm just not interested in.
I think most women would agree that it's not that we DON'T like to look at naked men, but perhaps a more accurate question would be, why do men like to look at naked women, since it's men who seem to be able to look and look and look without ever getting tired or bored.....pity that most can't say the same for making love to their own wives!!!!!! :D

While I’m pretty far from a typical male, I can certainly explain why I like to look at women. Let me start by saying that most mainstream pornography doesn't do much for me anymore. I’m so tired of artificial-looking women who look like they’re clones of each other doing the same old thing over and over again. It’s been turned into a product, most women are in it for the money, and it’s aimed at the lowest common denominator. I think I outgrew mainstream porn at 17 or so. I own a few “classic” mainstream sex movies that are far above the rest, like “1001 Erotic Nights,” but I almost never buy porn anymore.
On the other hand, I really enjoy amateur porn, especially self-pics taken by women. This is how I found and joined Pixie’s over 3 years ago. I think it’s very sexy when a woman decides to share herself with the world, not for money, but because she enjoys it and wants to give pleasure to other people. It’s so hot because she knows that men would be jerking off to her pic, and is turned on by the idea. I like all kinds of pics, but especially pussy shots. Every pussy is different and unique and it’s always a new experience. More importantly, I get really turned on by imagining how the pic was taken: how a woman spreads her legs, parts her pussy lips, adjusts the settings on her camera, and takes pics for the men to masturbate to. It’s kinky, and it’s also a rush because normally women would never share their most private parts with strange men. I always feel privileged to be a part of it and appreciate the hell out of the women who are willing to do it :x:
I guess the point I’m trying to make is that it’s not like a male’s visual system is directly connected to his dick, bypassing all higher brain functions. At least in my case, there is usually quite a bit of psychology and imagination involved. Even for men who look at mainstream porn, I suspect that a big part of the excitement is seeing women who act so differently from the ones they know in everyday life.
women are more interested in the erotic stories, the flirtatious chat and the serious discussion here at Pixies
Sex stories are great, and I used to be really into them for a while, but they’re make-believe. It’s far more exciting to look at real women taking real pictures of themselves. It’s a turn-on when a woman writes candidly about her real sexual experiences, though. And flirting is great, but only if it leads somewhere… there has to be a possibility of sex involved. Flirting for its own sake seems somewhat pointless.
a lot of the men simply post pictures of their cocks
Please forgive many of us men for only posting pictures of our cocks. It’s just that the single biggest turn-on for most men is seeing female genetalia, and we assume it works the same way for women as well. It’s merely a case of tragic misunderstanding :( For us to improve, though, we need constructive comments, something that’s too often lacking in the “Pictures of Men” section.
I prefer those of men that I know (or have gotten to know here)
I agree that getting to know someone adds to the turn-on of seeing them naked. I often wish that porn movies had more of a plot that would allow the viewer to get to know and care about the characters before the sex starts. That said, there are certain types of women that turn me on instantly, even if I don’t know them at all. My pet theory (which might be pseudoscientific nonsense) is that my brain subconsciously recognizes that a woman is a good genetic match for me, which leads to an immediate sexual response.
P.S. Here's a link to my pics (http://www.pixies-place.com:81/forums/showthread.php?t=26684); I always appreciate comments.
I really do like the pics and appreciate the men that post. It's just that I'm such a smut game slut I forget to go down there and look most the time. :D
I agree that men are much more visual too. I might go and look at 3 or 4 threads and then move on, while hubby will spend a good hour or two looking at pics. :rolleyes2

Mrs. WI doesn't like looking at pictures of men. It doesn't do anything for her at all. Pictures of me or anyone else, known or unknown. She much prefers stories or videos of sexy situations, not necessarily pornographic. I guess that's what helps nurture the thoughts that I have that "all I have is a pecker, and who wants to look at that?" which leads to trying to be more creative with my picture threads. Not being very bright and creative...I usually end up falling back on my natural talent. My talent of being a goofball. ha ha Hey, at least I can make you laugh. :)
It's been said several times already ... in general, men are more visual and in many cases almost need the visual stimulation as a part of the sexual process .... women (again, in general) tend to need more connection (in a variety of ways) .... for me ... I hardly ever go into the men's pics forums ... unless I'm friends with the guy posting or feel some kind of connection to the guy ... well, it just doesn't really do much for me ...
but I think Pixies is no different than the real world in this ... how many men's magazines can you name that show pictures of nude women .... in fact the market is good enough that there are a fair number of successful men's magazines that specialize in a particular approach or fetish ... on the other hand, how many magazines are out there that show pictures of nude men ... and even those are likely to have at least a significant portion of their subscribers who may not be female. :)
men and women ... we are different inside and out (in general)! :D

yep! :spin:
I have to agree that I am not generally turned on by pics of naked men, especially if it's just their member. I need context, I need a face! I am glad I am not the only woman out there who feels the same way. And, I must say I prefer looking at the ladies, though I don't swing that way. They are just more soft and smooth and pretty. Men, just more utilitarian.
And to respond to agaethwe:
"And flirting is great, but only if it leads somewhere… there has to be a possibility of sex involved. Flirting for its own sake seems somewhat pointless. "
I find that flirting is *more* fun if you know it's not going anywhere. That way you can keep it up indefinitely without it having to end once you've "consummated" the relationship. I've had several male friendships that involved a certain amount of flirtation that we both knew would not lead to anything. It added a zing to the friendship that you just don't get with women (at least I thought so).

Alba, I think you're so right, especially about the flirtation thing. One of the reasons Fussy and I have such a great relationship, is because we are both big flirts but also have absolute trust that the flirting won't lead anywhere.
It's a good confidence/ ego boost, it makes you and the person you flirt with feel good.

Maybe it is just me but sometimes some of the pics that just hint at something....you know like the outline of a hard cock to just a peek of it does it for me. I'm not quite sure why you're arguing against erotic fiction and flirtation. Whether you are into it or not is irrelevant. The question you asked was about women's preferences not your own. Telling us that you don't like flirting unless it goes somewhere is not going to make us stop wanting to flirt and start prefering pictures of penises.
We're different from men. It's just the way we are and if you want to attract female attention, then you need to be flexible and adaptable.....we don't really understand why men have an endless appetite for pictures of breasts and pussy, but we accept that you do, and therefore show pictures to suit your tastes.
Women here are no different from real life women (because we ARE real life women, not imaginary porn princesses). You wouldn't try to pick up a girl in a night club by showing her your cock, so why think that it would work here? Far better to woo the ladies with words, make them feel special (how many of the women's pics have you commented on so far? I checked.......none) flirt with them (you may not like it, but women do...your own wife agreed with that... and it's not "pointless" if it gets them commenting on your pictures, is it?). Finally you've said that you're a lot different from other men (but we've heard it all before, haven't we ladies?) so how about proving it? Let's see the side of your personality that makes you stand out from the crowd....then you may find women becoming more interested in seeing you in your next-to-nothings.

I'm not "arguing against" anything... just describing my own opinions and preferences and trying to offer a bit of male perspective. The reason why I haven't commented on women's pictures is because typically there are already pages and pages of comments for their pics, in contrast to the male section. My words would just get lost in that flood, and somehow it makes me feel rather insignificant. And give me a break, I only started posting a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, is it just me, or was Pixies friendlier three years ago?

From a woman who only has a few pictures posted. I treasure each kind word that is posted within my threads, and try to acknowledge each thought that was left (though sometimes I fail). Just as men like to have their ego stroked, so do us women ... in that regard I think we are quite similar we all like to be complimented.
I find to be Pixies plenty friendly - but then I guess it's what you make of it :)

I post a reply to every individual poster on my picture threads, as I still find it unbelievable that anyone would be interested in seeing my naked behind on display! I don't consider the responses I get to be insignificant....I still get a thrill when I see that someone has replied to one of my threads, and I usually spend a couple of days musing over how to reply to them before I do, so that I can say something original and heartfelt.
As for whether Pixies was friendlier three years ago.....well, I was here three years ago too, and I don't think it's changed. Having a difference of opinion, being honest, and communicating the other side of an argument about something is not unfriendliness. It's called discourse, and I've always found it one of the most stimulating things about Pixies....fun, sexy, intelligent people from all over the world, interacting on multiple levels...*shivers*....I think it's great!

I'll just throw in an opinion here too.
Pixies is every bit as friendly as it was three or four years ago, but we have matured enough to feel free to voice differing opinions.
Some friends have come close to blows over differences in belief, but in the end tolerance rears her pretty head and it's off to the next thread.
No-one here is irreplaceable, but no-one is insignificant. Our community is a group of diverse Pixies.
The girls I know well love to share in the erotic nakedness of their friends, but find someone shoving a dick at them out of context a little off-putting.
I'll go back to my corner, agaethwe.

I'm not sure how this turned into a "was Pixies friendlier 3 years ago" discussion, but my take is pretty much like Oldfart's - we're not less friendly at all.
And while I think we were all very comfy expressing differences of opinion, I guess to a degree we're more comfortable now. Not sure why.
But I will add this important point:
Chat just ain't the same.
Used to be 10 people in there a night - and that's an Aussie night. Now, you'd be lucky to see more than just me and ole Jupey. And that's not good - you have no idea how loose his butt is now, I've had nobody else to play with. :(

PS I like naked people.

I think you may have misunderstood what agaethwe meant regarding erotica and flirtation. I don't think he was arguing against them per se, just pointing out his own view/preferences. And I can see how real pictures and real stories would be more exciting than generic porn - and it is just a preference, not a judgement on anyone.
