I received an email from a friend a little while ago and at the bottom of the message that was sent was this quote ~

"I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our
wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

I am wondering, what quote, saying, song lyric has touched you? Is it one that comes to mind when you are troubled or happy? Or when you hear it, what feelings come to the surface?

I am curious.. LOL (good excuse as any!) :D

chey, my list is endless. and i'm reading or hearing new ones all the time. i'm a word lover, totally in love with them - and when i can hear a few of them strung together in just the right way so that they have a character all their own, can immediately evoke any resposne, it's always something that leaves an imprint on me.

I'm not sure who said it, but the one that caught my attention recently was....

I am not afraid of storms, as I am learning to sail my own ship.

"I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning how to sail my ship." ~ Louisa May Alcott is in IAKG's sig line.

I'm with wyndhy & love quotes. I'm a big fan of Dorothy Parker & Mae West quotes. Ah, saucy women, how I love ye!

I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.

That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither...."

Chey

A work mate of mine about 25 years ago had that as his catch-phrase.

I don't know where he got it from, but had the impression it had been around for ever.

But like wyndhy, I've got an endless list.

I always have liked this quote from Carl Sagan, "For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

I also have thought that to be a memorable quote, but the current climate has kept me from adding anything more profound than the wisdom of Groucho Marx. I’m going out on a limb and try something from Will Rogers. ;)

Belief Is All You Need
A man was lost while driving through the countryside. As he tried to read a map, he accidently drove off the road into a ditch. Though he wasn't injured, his car was stuck deep in the mud. So the man walked to a nearby farm to ask for help.

"Warwick can get you out of that ditch," said the farmer, pointing to an old mule standing in a field. The man looked at the haggardly mule and looked at the farmer who just stood there repeating, "Yep, old Warwick can do the job." The man figured he had nothing to lose. The two men and Warwick made their way back to the ditch.

The farmer hitched the mule to the car. With a snap of the reins he shouted, "Pull, Fred! Pull, Jack! Pull, Ted! Pull, Warwick!" And the mule pulled the car from the ditch with very little effort.

The man was amazed! He thanked the farmer, patted the mule and asked, "Why did you call out all of those other names before you called Warwick?" The farmer grinned and said, "Old Warwick is just about blind. As long as he believes he's part of a team, he doesn't mind pulling." ~Adapted from Some Folks Feel the Rain - Others Just Get Wet...James W. Moore...Dimensions

"To harbor resentment, bitterness or 'unforgiveness' is not only to imprison others but it is also to imprison ourselves. The world will only become truly free when humankind learns reconciliation and forgiveness. It is forgiveness that will break down the walls of division and separation that prevent us from seeing the dignity of ourselves and each other." ~ Patrick J. Burke

It's a near-quote of a excerpt from the poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson:

Their's not to make reply,
Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die:

The poem recounts the cavalry charge by the 15th Hussars-part of the British Light Cavalry Brigade at Balaclava during the Crimean War. Stupid fucks in command seemingly did all they could to ensure that the brigade woudl be slaughtered in attack a fortified Russian artillery position. There's an account of the background (and a link to the full poem) on the web here:

My contribution is an old one, I have no idea of the originator:

Never criticize a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Then he's a mile away, and barefoot.

Currently, I'm getting a lot of use of a quote from the character Jayne in the series "Firefly" and the movie "Serenity":

Sure would be good to have some grenades right about now.
