Makybe Diva!! What a horse! She is being likened to the mighty Phar Lap

3 consecutive Melbourne Cup wins....never before has any horse, and a mare at that, ever done what she did yesterday

Her earnings are more than AU$14.5 million

She is now retired to stud....hope to see many mini divas to come!

Very cool. I know how much you love horses. This must be a wonderful day for her owners!

WOW! What a tremendous stroke of luck to purchase her before she was born!

I can see why, even though it's sad that she is retired, everyone is happy that she went out in the glory that will be hard pressed to be repeated!

Great story! TY for sharing Alassė!

Cool story!

Er, I don't know much about horse racing -- is winning a horse race by one-and-a-half lengths a big distance?

She came from near the back of the field to take the win...so yep its a good distance

The Melbourne Cup has another name 'the race that stops a nation'

And it does too......so many stop what they are doing to watch the 2-3 minute race

My son came home from school to tell me even the classes of kids were permitted to watch the race *L*
Most radio stations broadcast the race
Bosses permit employees to stop work to catch the race (by TV or radio)

The first Tuesday in November is a big deal to a lot of Aussies

Makybe Diva won her way into hearts and history books this year

I don't think it sad she was retired....makes sense to me

A horse at 8yrs is classed as aged....she is currently 7yrs

Makybe has nothing to prove by continuing to risk herself by running more races....she is one of the best....she has earned her retirement

Now she will live a even more pampered life as a breeding mare....her offspring will be worth millions i'm sure

Heh, school on Cup Day? You go to work??
There can't be too many other States like Victoria that get a public holiday so some horsies can run around in a circle!

The big question, Alasse, is how come you didn't come down and watch the race?? There's a few Pixies down here could have shown you an' Bilbo what we mean by the famous Melbourne night-life.... you don't even need to leave your hotel room for it ;)

But yeah, it's good that Makybe won. I heard also that she was the only horse to win the Cup carrying that much weight, too. Or the only one in 30 years or something.

Couldn't afford to *L*...even when i lived in Vic i never made it to the Cup....will have to try to get there one day

I'll be heading to Vic around June/July all going well...only landing at Melbourne then off to Warrnambool and surrounds for a bit
