Something else to do tonight…

If you are interested, and the weather permits, tonight is a very good night to take a look at Mars.

On the East Coast of the U.S., at 11:30 Mars will be an orangeish star about two thirds of the way to the zenith when you are facing East. If you can get your hands on a junk telescope, it will make it seem to be the same size as the moon. You should be able to see the large dark markings fairly easy, but the details will be blurry (at best).

YES! I heard about it yesterday and they said our skies should be clear enough to view it around midnight...but alas, it's choppy clouds today and I am hoping for it to clear for a good view tonight.

Won't see anyting like this again for what? Another 18 years...or something like that...yes?

I know Mars was closer and brighter a few years back. I could view it with my naked (<---I said naked...lol!) eye. This time around will be a bit dimmer! Still...I'm always looking up!!!!!

Just came in from viewing Mars with my telescope. Perfect view!

BONUS: We caught the COSMOS 1975 R/B satellite flying overhead. Of course we didn't know which satellite it was at first but then checked it out with the NASA site and confirmed the identity of our bogey.

I just came in from looking, too. I just had a pair of binoculars, so it wasn't quite as good as a telescope would have made it, but impressive none-the-less. Thanks again for the heads-up, jseal.
