i've never seen anything weird on the one around here but i don't check it out much.

OOOOOOOOO Steph! Those are so cool! The snow doesn't get stuck on the blade! :D
Also, the snow piles can be sliced like butter with a warm knife..

ROFL You scare me sometimes! :D
I mentioned it to my b/f and he didn't seem surprised by it, either. I thought it was the craziest thing ever, though. Plugging in a shovel?
Anyone want a WWE fanny pack? There's one available in Toronto!

I have one of those shovels....absolutely great! It's a bit more than a shovel you plug in...it blows the snow away as you glide it through.
Here in town some is giving away a pair of size 10 snow pants with patches on the knees.....

LOL.... those are snowblowers. I was thinking of a "Red Green" type of shoves with jumper cables hooked up to a shovel causing the blade part to warm up thus being able to cut through snow easier.. (With lots of duc tape and maybe PF holding onto the handle.. ;) )

OMG! I think I NEED that game! I'm sorta playing it now, during football season, with a co-worker (male of course). I'd love to see the premise and the rules of this game!
OK...call me stupid...*waits for the sarcasm to halt* but I've gotta ask this. What is "Freecycle"? I think I might know but I don't want to make an even bigger ass of myself if I am completely off track! I will admit, however, that when I read this thread title I was thinking bicycling...mainly because of the thread's author (<---little inside joke there :D )
*bends over for the inevitable spanking and then watches for the explainations to roll in*
Steph
10-16-2005, 12:05 PM
http://freecycle.org/
You post things you don't want anymore & can post requests for things you want. It's free & you're recycling -- freecycling but it reminds me of biking, too.
My best score to date was a toaster oven. People have given away pianos on the site, too! Damn my third-floor walk-up.
Freecycle out here....Cabbage Patch Dolls and cages. I didn't ask.

Some things have to be because of Halloween but today was a bumper crop of weirdness:
-Wanted: bowler hat and cane
From the clueless:
Offer: gel
I have a tube of gel here from the mail today.I guess its for the hair
because it reads "short cuts" It also has the word "spike" on it And
says "super strong gel".
Anyone familiar with this gel, will know what it is for.
(love the wording - "I guess its for the hair". Anyone familiar with this gel? Tee hee!)
Taken: Teddy bear teapot
Offer: Silver plated Tiara with cubic zirconia diamonds
And my fave of the day:
[FreecycleTO] WANTED - Magic Bullet
I am in need of a Magic Bullet for a friend.
Please let me know if you have one.
Ahahaha, a friend! Right!
d5254t
10-20-2005, 07:25 PM
FYI not to ruin the entertainment value of the post but a magic bullet is a blender shaped like a bullet
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product_Id=3995431&JRSource=yahoo.datafeed.EMS+7712
the freecycle here in Jacksonville only has things like costumes and clothes
there was a boat yesterday, but I have noticed a lot of breast pumps on there.
wyndhy
10-20-2005, 07:30 PM
i don't think the breast pump is all that wierd..they are very expensive and you use them for such a short period of time. they can be sterlized so i don't see the weirdness.
Steph
10-20-2005, 08:41 PM
Damn, I had a feeling the magic bullet might not have been what I thought.
The breast pump request isn't too weird but come on! Showing up at some stranger's door in the afternoon to take something that once was on their boobies? It's a fantasy of WI's I'm sure but it's kinda weird to think about the meeting.
wyndhy
10-20-2005, 08:43 PM
it would be weirder...for me anyway...to show up at someones door and say 'uh...hi...i'm here for the gross of clerical collars.'

OMG, ROFLMFAO at you all!
Errrrr...I'm from Kentucky. That's "y'all." :D
Steph
10-20-2005, 08:47 PM
I just thought those might have been for a gaggle of priests on Halloween!
Maybe the breast pump and collars are for the same people?

I just got a message to my group that there is some recent controversy around the possibility the owner/developer of freecycle may be attempting to make a profit from it. http://www.businessweek.com/the_thread/techbeat/archives/2005/08/whats_up_at_fre.html
Here's a blog too. http://blogs.businessweek.com/the_thread/techbeat/archives/2005/08/best_of_the_web_2.html#comments
Now there is an alternate group in my area based on this group http://freesharing.org/
Steph
10-21-2005, 06:31 AM
They started an alternate group in my area, too. I think that was more political, though.
Today is starting out weird, too:
[FreecycleTO] wanted: gumball machine & cat clock
Im looking for 2 things right now. A gumball machine
(the bigger the better). Those retro looking ones that
are red with clear glass where the gumballs sit.
Doesnt have to have any gumballs in it.
and one of those old retro looking cat clocks. You
know, those black ones that were all over the place in
the 70s and 80s. Some of them the cats eyes move with
each second tick.
I'm looking forward to how fast she'll post a received message. :)
Thanks

bedside toilet :o
Not to be a pain in the butt, but a lot of handicapped folks use these toilets. I know I had to use one during my rehab time when I was unable to leave the bed
well since I'm the Moderator for the Freecycle group in my town, I get to deal with the messages that never make it to the list......like brass knuckles!
needless to say, I denied that post.
I also used to be the guy in charge of approving all new groups in my state,
until last month when i retired from that part, lol.
damng my poor memory, trying to remember some of the other ones that people were trying to offer.....
birth control pills was one....I'll have to check my old emails and see if I saved any of the other strange rejected ones.
I got myself a wheelchair off my group!!
had a couple cars posted on mine, unfortunatly I wasnt gifted with any of them as my car still doesnt run

[FreeCycleTorontoAnnex] Offer: Bag of Lite Brite pegs anyone?**
There are maybe 50 - 100.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with my mother when I was five or six:
Mom: Your grandmother is getting you something you always wanted for Christmas!
Me: A crystal ball?
It turned out to be a Lite Brite.
I don't remember ever lusting after a Lite Brite the same way I did the crystal ball. *shrug*

With all of you talking about your freecycle groups, I did a search on the net and there is one near us! Pretty cool and I have bunches of stuff I that is good that I don't want to haul to an auction house or continue with my plans of having a rummage sale.
Oh.. someone on the group is wanting empty altoid tins. I was thinking of why anyone would want them, and then decided that they would be pretty cool pill boxes or even jewelry boxes (decorated) or even bobbin holders... hmmmmmmmm

probably not, Quesy Bake is the version that you can make things like Worms & Crud, Oldy moldy cake, Dip & drool dog bones, Larva-liccious cookies and other treats of such repulsive but cool type
of course I would be the one that knew that, lol

"OK, this refrigerator is a sears coolmaster 14. It's white. It's
approximately 35 years old and it still runs like a swiss watch. Only
2 problems; because it's older, it's got some very light rust spots.
My wife once used a scouring pad to clean it and it looked almost new
again. Secondly the interior light in the refrigerator only comes on
annually. 1 time per year it lights for one opening and that's it.
Otherwise, this unit is in great shape, the interior is metal not
plastic and all the racks and drawers are clean. If you come and get
it I can assist you getting it into your vehicle."

My husband is in the military, and they use to use this coffin to
practice for funerals. He brought it home a few years ago when they
were getting rid of them at work. We've used it for a halloween
decoration and my husband has always wanted to make a cooler out of
it. Just never took the time to do it. It's heavy and you will need
two people or a dolly and a truck to move it. We are moving and can't
take it with us. I'm in the 21230 area.
