…..Katrina grew into a Category 5 hurricane on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale by 7:05 a.m. EDT (1105 GMT), with winds of 160 mph (260 kph) capable of causing catastrophic damage. The storm was around 250 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River…..
Pixies does have members that are in the forecasted path of Katrina, but none that have requested (http://www.pixies-place.com:81/forums/showthread.php?t=21983) to be included on our maps. They are on our minds and I hope we will be hearing from our members that will witness Kartina's passing.
The repatition of this past two years can understandably cause a degree of complacency for residences and obsrevers of these events, but it does not change the degree of danger and distruction that is present. I will be keeping these members in this area in mind and hoping all the people in the path remain safe.
Thanks for the concern PF. The storm is about 100 miles west of us now and still heading northwest. We'll be on the fringe of it, but it is a huge one. It may just be the biggest to ever hit the usa.
I worry about the folks in New Orleans, like Wicked Wanda. Hope she is getting the hell out of there....

TY once again PF! I love how you love us all!
For all in her path...be safe and smart! My thoughts and best wishes to anyone of witness!
^^^PF makes me talk like that! I doubt I've ever actually vocalized such a statement. But the sentiment is real!

I'll join in the prayers for our Pixies and others in the path of the storm. Really doesn't sound good at all for N.O. and the other areas in the path.

I’m trying to confirm radio reports that “the New Orleans levy system has collapsed".:yikes: If there can be a blessing with such an event, Katrina has slowed down to level 3 with ONLY 120 mph winds.
BigBear57

I just heard that only a portion of the levy broke and they're surprised that no more damage has been done .... there's still some hurricqane left though.. I'll keep gppd thoughts and prayers for those fine folks.

I just received a note from somebody near the Alabama border in the Florida panhandle.
........ the winds here are getting pretty rough. yesterday our town was full of travelers, it was really sad to see them because you knew they were running for their lives.
We just saw on the tv that like hundreds were on their roofs in LA wanting help....
Also, the Superdome where about 10,000 people are, the roof has started to leak.
It's scary stuff.
That sure IS scary stuff!!
I “heard” that the Superdome was having MAJOR problems with a full house of refugees. :yikes: Still looking for confirmations. :hair:

Safety to all our people!

While ‘relief’ is hardly the word, Katrina didn’t fulfill her complete potential, gratefully.
Anyone who has interest is aware of what Katrina HAS done and where. Being thankful must be very difficult for the people it has affected. I only hope our Pixies all are safe and with minimal aftermath to contend with.
Katrina being the monster she is, causes me concern for her future travels (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/024544.shtml?prob) through people and places that are not as accustomed to hurricane personality as our Gulf, eastern seaboard and southeastern USA members may be. It looks like she is going to visit many of our members in one fashion or the other.
Those of you that do get to meet the windy lady, please keep us informed of the visit and I hope it’s a quick and quiet one.

I know we have other special Pixies In Tennessee that haven’t requested being added to our map as we also do in Kentucky. One of our active members has parents near Louisville. (and I believe her children happen to be visiting with them now. )
We have quite a few members in Ohio not indicated on our map and that is not a new lake in Columbus. It is the lose of our osuch …………. as she’s gone to set up house keeping on the San Andreas fault. :hair:

We do not have any map members in western Pennsylvania to my recollection ………………………. But I can’t swear to that as I only have a blank PA map.
(don’t tell anybody I lost PA :o) *runs to see if PA is ‘PASTED’ on his wall with Lixy’s pics*
We also have more members in New York than the map reflects.
I don’t know if Katrina has permission from Homeland Security to leave the US, but it won’t do it if it knows what is waiting for it in Toronto.
( the flapping of a 10 million monkey wings can counteract ANYTHING :yikes: )

Hey, what is this crap? I've got a hurricane on my front porch. And the sad part is that she won't leave. The Bluegrass is floating.
I hope that all of ya'll who felt the full fury of this wench are okay.
Look out PF, she's coming for ya!

Of course I have no clue as to whom he is referring but Toronto is supposed to get some heavy rains later in the week, nothing too serious.

Damn, if Katrina wasn't bad enough now they've had a delayed levy break. No telling how many will die as a result.

We hand showers today from Katrina as she made her way through Indiana. She has had some effect on a lot of the central part of the USA.

A BLANK PENNSYLVANIA MAP????????????
LMAO PF! I'm here! On the eastern border...but I'm still in Pa.!
Now explain to the nice people...how Pixie's slide off an entire state map! Don't forget to mention all the ooey gooey stuff oozing outta ya and landing who knows where (prolly squirts it on the maps to mark his territory)!!!!
/me prepares to send PF a map of Pa. made of metal and imprinted with Pixie names in indelible marker (<---his goo still might take it off...but it'll take a while *WEG*)
So how is everyone? I've had our family ever on my mind!
I am fine and the weather peeps still can't call this one for us. They said we'd have thunderstorms today...but to no avail. Now they say tonight through tomorrow...but I don't see it coming yet. Just waiting it out and in the aftermath we are expecting some of the finest weather for this summer!
I wish everyone well in Katrina's path! Will check for all to check in with reports!

Well, all is well here now. I live about 250 miles inland and she was still a hurricane when the eye passed over my house at midnight last night. Trees have been knocked down, a little roof damage here and there. Went to bed in the "fraidy hole" i.e. storm shelter last night and woke up to no power as did 90% of the state of Mississippi. Lights are back on at my house but my mom and my sister still don't have power 30 hours later. Some people are looking at up to 3 weeks without electricity.
We lucked out in comparison. I havent heard from my best friend who lives in Biloxi, MS and long distance is pretty much a no go so I can't call and her parents have moved so I can't find anything out until she either goes back or calls me. But me and mine are safe albeit a little wind whipped.

It would appear that tho the levee breaks have virtually eliminated the city of New Orleans & left about a million people homeless, seems many moved to higher ground & kept the death toll down there...but it's what happened when K went east & took on Mississppi instead that looks like has lead to a tragic loss of life...last count was 100 dead & rising, with fears that we may not know the final toll in the end...

Last news I listened to said that it would take days to tally the fatality count. I just found out that my best friend was still in Biloxi at the time Katrina passed over but that they evacuated this morning and are now on their way to Minnesota.

Oh SURE! You’re SOOOOOO busy all the time. Too busy to read the board or PM friends for weeks at a time,………………….. but THIS you found in a matter of hours. :hair:
Actually I DO have the Pa map with just the splats, ….I mean, your location marked. I was sure there were other Pixies that had asked to be included, but there is another file that goes with each state and you are the only one. :( I guess I made a mistake.
All for the best I guess. I make a mistake every millennium and I’ve been wanting to get that out of the way for five years now. :rolleyes2

Not to make fun but who pissed Katrina off? :hair:
I have met so many people from LA and MS. Since alot of them are coming into Texas. They have been so nice considering what has happened. One broke down in the lobby today just from the helpless feeling of the situation. Of course I just had to hug her. I told her this is just a sign from God. She looked at me like I had lost my mind. I then just smiled and told her " He is just letting us know that he is still in charge. " That brought a smile to her face. Then she just chuckled and said " I haven't looked at it that way"
The one thing we all can depend on is "things will change...that is a given."

Have we heard from Wanda yet?
txgrneyes, I live in a hurricane area here, and 30 years ago another bitch flattened
our town.
She came back, as will New Orleans on a far grander scale.
The human loss is something which will be met and placed in perspective.
God's will you didn't lose millions.

i hope none of them braved the hurricane only to run afoul of the looters, vermin and opportunists who are preying upon the businesses and homes that were left less than intact by katrina.

I happen to see a post from Cassiopea, then Maddy confirmed she has come out of New Orleans. I’m thrilled to hear she is safe for now,:line:.... but saddened that I was not aware she was in Kartina’s path. :( :o
I would be VERY interested in any information or details you may be able to share with us. My ‘faith’ in media and government begs for firsthand facts from someone I can trust. Your personal prospective and experience would be meaningful to many of us, WHEN and if you feel up to it.

I just found out today that a friend of mine from my single years may not have made it. The scariest part and the most heart wrenching part is not knowing, not knowing how to find out, and not knowing what you can do to help.
I found a picture last night. It was from the night that my daughter was concieved. It was in Biloxi, Mississippi. The building we were in doesn't exist anymore. :( It's quite sobering.

Thanks to all pixies for your concern
I tried to get a plane out during the hurricane but all of them were booked when I got there and so I was stranded in the airport for about 4 days. Northwest generously gave people free flights to Memphis where I called my friend in Nashville and stayed with her for a few days. On Sunday I finally got to Syracuse where my big sister is at school. Unfortunately I don't know when I will be able to go back. My house flooded but thankfully we are all insured. I'm truly humbled by the generosity and kindness that friends, family, and even strangers have shown me throughout all of this. I pray that all other gulf coast pixies are safe and settled for the time being. My thoughts are with them. :grope:
