Gentlefolk,

There is a nasty bit of code going around that steals logins and passwords from online banking sessions, PayPal, eBay, and other programs without you knowing about it.

It was discovered only a few weeks ago (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4186972.stm) , and if you go here (http://research.sunbelt-software.com/ssaclean.cfm), you can run a free utility which can tell you if your machine is infected.

Some people may not need to check, as their machines cannot be infected by this beastie.

Thanks! You know about a week or 2 ago. My virus scan went nuts. Not due to a virus but because of PUPs. I ran checks and scans galore. It's says my system is fine but it's crazy how quick you can pick up something.

true lil. and thank you jseal. there is one good thing about having a very old puter with very old software: most of the new viruses, bugs, worms, spy and ad bots, etc. cannot affect my computer. i guess they figure since i won't even take the time and $$ to update my software, there's prolly nuthin good on it anyway.
*sigh* not sure if i am insulted yet. i'll think on it a while :D

I'm in the same boat, still living in the last century does have SOME advantages...although it doesn't protect against all virus/spyware, got hit hard by a trojan about a month ago, took all day to get my puter to restart & a week for my virus scan & spybot programs to finally get updated to recognise it & clean it out...& still haven't been right since...worst part was it passed itself off as website selling anti-virus programs as a ruse to get your credit card & crucial info...

I'm not a violent man, but if I ever got my hands on these pencildickgeeks that assault my computer, I believe I would pop their fuckin heads like a pimple...& feel as much regret as if they were just pimples...

scotzoidman,

I’m with you on this one.

I make a living programming computers, and I resent those lowlifes who get a kick out of screwing up my machine. Even more detestable are those who steal from others (money & identity) by manipulating their computers.

I hope there’s a special place in Hell reserved for them.
