The man behind the Moog Synthesizer, Dr. Robert Moog, has died at home in North Carolina. He was 71 years old.
Walter (now Wendy) Carlos' 1968 Grammy award-winning album, “Switched-On Bach”, brought Dr. Moog to prominence when Carlos played renditions of J. S. Bach compositions on a Moog synthesizer. Later, the Doors, the Grateful Dead, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles also used Moog synthesizers.
