The hardest thing I've ever had to do was drop my husband off at the airport to go back to Iraq, then have to come home and explain to my son what had just happened.

I made a conscious decision to do the thing that scared me the most, that I wasn't sure I could handle: to become a single mom. As things turned out, it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

While working as a cop in the Air Force stationed in Japan I went into the house of a rather intoxicated disraught wife who had a knife and was threatening to take her life. After about 4 hours of talking, I was finally able to get the knife away from her and get the experts in to the house to get her help. She never did thank me - but that's OK, I know a good thing happened that night as her life was spared.
