View Full Version : Random Thoughts

maddy

I often find myself having a single random thought that I feel like throwing up on the screen in type for all to see. It's not enough of a thought to warrant a thread for discussion, just something I want to throw out there in passing. Of course, I do this in real life and people generally look at me in a confusion wondering exactly where that thought came from and why on earth I felt the need to share at that precise moment.... so anyway, post your random thought and then carry on....

... sometimes I'm really lost when I come home and catch up and the day's post and I see snippets of conversation and wonder how to piece them together and what it was that I missed ...

I don't worry about random thoughts... I worry about random rambling...

I saw someone on the street in Berkeley this weekend who was walking around -- shoeless and braless -- taking charcoal impressions of poetry plaques in the sidewalk near my gym....and I started thinking about how I'd never seen anything like that in Ohio. First, people *always* walk with shoes, and second, there are few who take time to do rubbings.

Thank goodness that a place like Berkeley exists.

I wondered today how it is funny that we can be so lonely as people...

Doesn't matter if we are married or single each of us can feel lonely. So many people in the world and most of us are blessed with loving friends and hopefully at least one loving family member... I am thankful for my friends and yet still fight lonliness at times..

Doesn't seem possible to be lonely with so many people around us and yet we do. Maybe we withdrawl too much as people? Or maybe Blake is right and we have been so negatively affected by life's experience that we lose that childlike love of everyone around us.

I look at how kids love. They love openly and freely. We say it is naive and yet we are also jealous I think.

Anyway my random thought for the day.

Is it strange that every day I realize that I am on a precipice -- I can choose to either be positive about my life and myself....or I can choose to focus on the things that ate %$#& up.

I choose to be positive, and build the positive sid eup for those around me. Even though it's often a hell of a lot harder to be positive.

Those people who watch you as you talk...and you know they aren't really listening to a single word but waiting for you to stop moving your lips so they can say what they want to say...

Should I start over again or just walk away when I am through? I hate having to make that decision. Matter of fact, I hate having to finish my thought!

I often wonder how there can be so many people filled with so much anger and hate in this world ... and why it seems so hard to simply live and let live.

Great thread! I love Lil's & Lixy's posts off the top of my head . .

My sad little thought today was, "Why is it that when I don't see a known dealer in the 'hood for a while that I KNOW they're in jail? Why can't I assume they've gone to a good job?" Sadly, I haven't been proven wrong.

why is that some of those listening will actually believe them?

I like tiny hometown papers. I've read a friend's, who I miss terribly, for about a year now. And somehow have a mental image of the town he came from. It's amazing the stuff that is big news in a small town.

after seeing the 658934598734955865836 gallons of water our neighbors have in their driveway i had a random thought. why do people spend so much $$$ on water when those bottling companies 1) usually get it straight from the city lines 2)do not need to follow the same strict guidelines as city water works do and get away with more arsenic and other poisons, dangerous microbes and heavy metals in their water than you would ever find in a glass that came from your city water tap 3) lie through their teeth about where the water comes from and 4) charge more per gallon then the price of gasoline.

maddy
08-08-2005, 07:14 PM
Sometimes people just need to make decisions and stick to them, no matter the regret or "buyers remorse" they experience...

Zephreck
08-08-2005, 07:24 PM
While the city water itself is heavily treated and tested it still has to go through a great deal of pipes before it ends up out of your tap. Especially your house pipes. So there is more variables. Most cities do tests besides just in the storage facility but odds are the majority of the tests are in the pumping stations etc. Before it travels in some cases several miles and then through your own pipes which they have no control over. Especially in older homes that have metallic pipes vs PVC pipes.

Most cities too dont' allow well water to be used and in some ways have a monopoly over who has to buy their services so they don't spend the gazillion dollars on advertising that water companies do. Same reason that a woman that is healthy and in good condition but isn't a size three feels "fat" or why we eat crappy tasting food at "fast food" places that is horrible for us. Unfortunately too often we watch commercials like zombies and follow their commands lol.

Personally the best water I have ever drank was from my mom and dads. Pure artesian fed well over 300 feet deep. Water is so cold it will make feel almost comfortable in the hot Texas sun. Of course they live in the country though so no city water for them.

maddy
08-08-2005, 07:28 PM
I drank filtered water from the city today ... and I can tell you I won't make the mistake of forgetting my bottled water again. My absolute favorite water is that that comes out of the spigot on my refrigerator door ... course I've not had that water in two months nearly, but I digress... carry on.

Random thought ~ (or rant really)

Why do some people who work with you feel like they know what your job should consist of better than you? Why do my supervisor(s) feel that I can do the job of 3 people? Why did they not hire another full time person and feel that I could do that job ON TOP of the job that I normally do plus do the work that they paid someone $80,000 a year for???????

or... better yet, how do some people get away with spending 3 hours looking at little 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper glued on colored paper trying to decide if the arrow on the sign should be pointed in a different direction?

I love arguing with schools who insist they better understand my daughter (who they couldn't pick out of a line-up) than I do. :rolleyes2

I seem to recall that homo sapien roughly means "same man" or "same as man"...inferring that the fossils they found are the same as modern humans...& also, we humans today are actually referred to as "homo sapiens sapiens"...not sure why doubling the word makes it different...

Speaking of doubling... Microsoft's big business operating system used to be Windows NT, the NT standing for New Technology.
When you start Windows 2000 the splash screen says "Built on NT Technology".

That must have been thought up in Microsoft's Dept of Redundacy Dept.

I just got an error while posting to Pixies. Because I'm a good person, I sent the error report and got this response:

"At this time, no solutions are available for the problem you reported. However, to help prevent more errors from occurring, we recommend you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), and then install the latest security updates for your computer."

In other words "we don't know wtf happened and we can't help you, but if you install SP2, you won't be plagued by errors that aren't hitting you now".

melt with you~modern english

Moving forward using all my breath
Making love to you was never second best
I saw the world thrashing all around your face
Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace
I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference and
It's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(You should know better)
Dream of better lives the kind which never hate
(You should see why)
Dropped in the state of imaginary grace
(You should know better)
I made a pilgrimage to save this human race
(You should see why)
Never comprehending a race that long gone by
(I'll stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(I'll stop the world)
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world)
There's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
The future's open wide
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world)
I've seen some changes but it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world)
There's nothing you and I won't do

I'll stop the world and melt with you

I avoid Wal*fall*apart like it is the plague. I try and buy from local ma and pop's businesses.

plus Wal*fall*apart's tire warantee is shit. I bought new tires there and a month later, one slipped a belt and although it was a manufacturing problem, they wouldn't replace it because my front end was just barely out of alignment when they took the tire off. I went through great rig-a-ma-roll, sales-pitches, and safety yadda yadda yadda to get that tire put back on so i could go to the local ma and pop's place. I paid a little more, had my alignment checked and he said that it was only slightly out, that a pot-hole could have done. With in 3 months of that the other tires went bad and my local guy put 3 new ones on.
