He was one of the greatest performers not to make it big. His influenced many musicians, such stars as Elton John, who took his stage name in honour of him. In fact the Rolling Stones opened for him in 1962 and in 1964 The Beatles asked him to perform on their first television special, but Baldry decided to stay pure to the blues and was content with the life he made for himself.

He was 64 and is survived by a sister and brother in England and his longtime life partner Felix(Oz)Rexach.

He passed away after suffering since April from respiratory problems.

Oh no! I loved him!!!

When I lived in the Rockies, I'd go to the Edmonton Folk Festival every summer and he was the backbone of it. They'll have a major tribute to him there.

What a voice!

RIP Mr. Baldry

He used to play at my city's summer festival callled Festival of Friends. He was also 6'7" tall and the first time my daughter saw him she asked me why he wore stilts on the stage. She was about 5 or 6 at the time.....
