Polanski won his case (http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/07/22/polsanski.libelaction.reut/index.html)

Anyone besides me have a problem with the entire scenario?

Hmmmmmmmm...before I comment on this case...isn't there a statute of limitations on molestation cases.

Oh...wait...it just popped into me head that adults are calling to task some priests that had molested them when they were alter boys and such.

NEVERMIND!

Anyway...regardless of his checkered past, libel is libel and he proved it...somehow!

Interesting, I don't believe he has ever claimed the rape allegation to be libel.

I kind of like the defense team's allegation that he had no reputation left to damage. I figured that pretty much encapsulated it.

I knew he was going to win...they did publish something pretty awful that they then admitted hadn't been true. But I wish the jury had just awarded him a buck and a half for a cup of coffee as damages.

Still, the law protects us all...even those who hide from it all their lives. I guess there's some comfort in that.

No comfort for a 13 year old raped with no one paying for what they did to her.

Didn't say there was much....

Yeah...I think this case hit me so hard cause I'm a GAL on a rape case now and I just can't imagine my girlie turining on the tv or picking up a magazine and having to see the perpetrator's face. Imagine the slap it was to watch him win an Academy Award.

some states do have a statute of limitation on child abuse/molestation cases but in my not so humble opinion there shouldn't be...ever.

I wonder how many ordinary folk would have the privilage of suing someone and not having to physically being in court due to the chance they may be extradited.......what a load of crappola. Makes me laugh that a man who had entered into a plea agreement of sex with a minor and takes off the night before it was to be read into court has the audacity to sue anyone.....he should have been awarded 2 cents for the damage it did to his wonderful character.

This guy just makes me sick. I understand the libel suit as Vanity Fair did libel him, but I think the judge should have thrown the case out sense he didn't want to show up in order to avoid extradition. The guy is scum.

Either that, or issue a court order DEMANDING the guy show his ugly face. And then issuing a contempt of court charge if he didn't comply....giving him yet another reason to never bring his rapist self back into the USA.

<sigh>

Maybe the workout didn't burn off enough of the aggression today... :p
