Well, I was over at my friends' house. When I finally got home around the 3 am mark I was no longer tired so I started breaking my old faithful desktop that finally died on me. It is 6 years old after all, and I'm not easy on computers.

I was asleep until a little while ago. Yesterday, my wife and I went to see the 3-D movie presentation of "Lord of the Dance" with Michael Flatly. Fantastic! Spectacular is hardly sufficient. We saw it live in Peoria several years ago and had seen the "VHS" tape of it before that. This updated version, done at the O2 Hall in Dublin was even better than those fantastic experiences.
Needless-to-say, we enjoyed it. :)

Yep...nutmeg in the mix, cinnamon-sugar on top. I thought they were good, and the Mr. liked them, too. Next time, though, I think I'll use slightly less nutmeg in them (1/2 tsp instead of 3/4 tsp), and the Mr. voted for cinnamon-sugar on only half of them...he's a big fan of the plain cake doughnut. The recipe was really quick; let me know if you want it, and I shall hook you up forthwith! :)

Two weeks ago I went to see a movie on opening week (not the norm) that I wanted to ponder before making comments. This movie no doubt has more local interest than for others but also covered a contemporary period for me and a DISTANT connection.
I don't know why "Kill The Irishman" was filmed in Detroit as there was not one scene I can not take you to the actual location or the exact type setting as the movie. "The Deer Hunter" was set in Pittsburgh but was filmed in Cleveland because it "looked more like a steel city", so go figure their thinking.
As for the movie, it made Green out to be a bit of a hero. From what I knew he really wasn't a nice guy. With "based on true events", based on are the key words. A number of small details are wrong and a couple points they DID wrong but it gives you the gist of everything .......... with Hollywood's touch. It's like reading the news paper account of an event you were present at or involved in. Makes you wonder about everything you read. Good movie if you enjoy bad guy biographies.

Of course the problem with people running for office is finding someone incorruptible who can turn a blind eye to the temptations of power. :(
Term limits (six years with no retirement benefits or pension) seem like a good way to start. Only those that really want to serve the people would likely run.
Lord Snow

Fun part about term limits being set is it takes an act of Congress. As we all know con is the opposite of pro. Therefore CONgress is the opposite of PROgress.

Well, at first I was on craigslist making an add, then I was helping dad unload an engine, go through more of my ranchero for a more complete parts list, then I had to help move a 1968 mustang which was interesting since it had a tree growing around it. Next thing you know it's dinner, then dishes, and now I'm back for a few before a shower.

Actually, "Where have you been?" is a good question. Seems like very, very few are posting anything. Has everyone given up on Pixies? Is the tenth year the final one?
I hope not, but even the very reliable members (when it comes to posting) aren't showing up ... I've got to wonder. If I'm the problem, let me know and I'll fade away and let you guys have this marvelous place to post. If it's something else, tell us so maybe we can fix it.
What's everybody's feelings? Are we finished?
I've loved Pixies from the day I joined and it really shook me when it looked one time like the site might fold. Then it was because of a change in ownership, but now ... well now it seems like the members are tired and/or discouraged. It'd be a shame if this most special place on the web faded and went away because no one cared enough to keep it going.
If that, however, is the choice, then I bid you a fond farewell and thank you for the years of fun and relationship that this site made possible. For myself, I'll hang on for a while and try to stay enthused ... but answering your own posts gets a little boring.
Oldfart

You're not the problem DB.
It appears that real life is intruding on some of our regular members' lurking.
Pixies isn't going to fade away, we hope, just stick with us and wait for the wave to rise again. Cowabunga dude.

I saw the fade-away start happening a few years ago when the whole "no super-explicit pictures" policy came down. Later, talking to others, I realized that I had misunderstood Lil's carefully worded directive on the subject regarding posts taken down if there were complaints, and maybe others did, too. I think that started a chill on activity here, because I noticed posts were way down, and old threads were coming back up, in (I can only assume) an effort for those who WERE here looking for something new and different.
It's always been a site with thousands of lurkers, as far as I can tell, and a handful of regular posters. I have been both in my 7 years here, depending on what was going on in my life. I think Oldfart is right--life takes people away, sometimes, but I don't think Pixies is in danger. Every week, it seems, someone has a "homecoming"...it's a place people may leave, but many come back to when life allows. I think we're okay.
