It happened a few years ago.........he completed a diversion program and it should have been removed from his record. He's also been clean since. He was upfront with the producers of American Idol from the start. They chose to let him participate. If he's stayed clean, and the producers are ok with him. Then why criticize or condemn him? Besides doesn't he deserve some credit for getting clean and staying that way?
He's not the only contestant that's had legal troubles. A few years back Scott Savol was arrested for domestic violence. The producers chose to let him continue as well.
I don't think it's fair for them to have to continue to pay for mistakes after the legal system says they have, or if charges were dropped in the first place.

Apparently if you fess up with the powers that be right from the start, you're pretty much good to go. It's when they find stuff out that you "forgot" to disclose (such as Frenchie not mentioning she'd posed topless years ago, or Corey-Cornrows not mentioning that he'd been in trouble for whacking his sister) that they toss you out.

I didn't start watching "Idol" till the 3rd season. So, I don't have any feelings about Clay one way or the other, except to say he's done better as a runner up than Ruben has as the winner, and I'm happy for him.

He plead guilty to public drunkeness and drug paraphanalia charges in Dec 2004 from charges filed in July 2003. What role do you think his soon to be appearances had in him pleading and making 18 month old charges disappear?

I dunno, what role do you think having a "bad boy" with a past had to do with the producers maybe wanting to spice up the competition a little bit?
...ok, maybe I'm a being cynical, but I just saw Kid Rock get drunk, disorderly, punch out a guy in a club, evade arrest by Metro's finest, all in one night here in town, & it doesn't seem to have hurt his image at all...enhanced it, maybe, if anything...my point being some people (especiallly some women) seem drawn like moths to the flame...
...ok, enough rambling...

true..but they decided to put a religious spin on him too (and I was hoping to corrupt him). I think it's interesting to see just how much the show may be manipulated.

no, it was one of the other contestants that is making all the claims, unlike Bo he did not tell about his past and got booted off the show for it...

And not only is it procrastination, but he now has a record deal with a CD coming out soon AND a book coming out too. Hmmmmm.............sounds like a sleazy way to sell CD's and books to me.
